Hi, i have an old compaq 2100 presario laptop that i want to get going so i can have a secondary comp to store all my files etc. it starts but all it says is press esc to change boot order. Press f2 to enter setup, f12 to boot from lan. And which ever one you press it says its loading it stays on the loading screen and doesnt do anything the fan is on and everything else works so what is it????? :confused: I while ago we had it looked at and the bloke thought it might have something to do with the hard drive. I think it had a couple of viruses befor hand as well. Any help would be a great hand thanks.
 
try removing the hard drive and placing it back again, and also the memory sticks and placing them again!!! obviously with the power off and also make sure you got your anti static wrist band on or earth yourself before touching any parts inside. ;)
 
Hey i tried that didn't work. haha. when i press esc to change boot order it says:
639k system RAM passed
190m extended RAM passed
512k cache SRAM passed
system BIOS shadowed
video BIOS shadowed

and just kinda freezes on that page really.
Any idea what that means???? thanks
 
try pressing the escape from boot order that you get, and then let it go to the bios stuff to choose your boot device, then choose your hard drive, or if you get the option to load defaults. and see how that goes.

other than that i think you may have a hard drive that could be on the way out!!!
