I live somewhere out in the woods in Southeastern PA, I have comcast cable internet, one of the white RCA modems they gave me, and a D-Link Wireless router. Whether I have my computer wired or wireless hooked up, the connection is basically terrible, it goes out when i'm downloading a few things and going on a website at the same time, i download at like 5 kb/s, I just don't know what to do, we had comcast come out and put new ground wire in, and some booster in the basement, but still, the connection is terrible and it is starting to drive me crazy, any advice?

Disconnect the router and plug it directly into your pc, see if the router is slwoing the connection.

ok

ok I'll have to try that in a day or two, then maybe ask again, thanks, comcast already put a signal booster in my basement and they are going to come put one on the main line on the pole now, thanks.

My parents were having this trouble for about a year, connection was slow and constantly disconnecting at the smallest hint of bad weather. We checked all the connections and got the signal booster, but it was still terrible. Finally, this year my rents had had enough and called comcast and were threatening to goto DSL because the service was so terrible. It still took about 3 weeks for them to come out, but the guy that finally did come, took a look at the cables we had. Apparently comcast had upgraded the cables a year ago and neglected to tell us about it. Of course this guy didn't have the cables with him, so it took them another 3 weeks to get the cables. But we haven't had trouble since.

That being said, Comcast sucks and they have no respect for their customers. If you have any other options, I'd switch to something else. I haven't tried it myself, but I've heard verizons new Fios is really good, just depends on where you are located. Good luck.

Make sure your firmware for your router is up to date. I had disconnection problems and speed problems until I did so. Rather easy to do, the manufacturers website should be able to walk you through it, or call tech support.

Just a warning to anyone here, if Time Warner is in your area, I'd advise to stay away from them also. They, like Comcast, also have no respect for their customers. Sadly, it's the only choice in this area.
