Just curious do they use GiB or GB in their counting?

Also what is the "limit" on bandwidth per day? I just hit 210gb (based off router monitor) and all of a sudden I am getting disconnected every 5 mins I upload anything.

This morning I am now uploading just fine. I have uploaded about 130gb this month total but I did like 15GB yesterday....got a lot of family photos/movies I am sending to a lot of family.

I called Craptastic today and they told me they don't do that kind of thing...so after 20 mins of proving them wrong I had my ticket elevated but the tech said he would get fired if he said anything.

So I have him coming to my house next week where I am sure he will be more honest but till then anyone know?

Dear Comcast High-Speed Internet Customer,

We appreciate your business and strive to provide you with the best online experience possible. One of the ways we do this is through our Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). The AUP outlines acceptable use of our service as well as steps we take to protect our customers from things that can negatively impact their experience online. This policy has been in place for many years and we update it periodically to keep it current with our customers' use of our service.

On October 1, 2008, we will post an updated AUP that will go into effect at that time.

In the updated AUP, we clarify that monthly data (or bandwidth) usage of more than 250 Gigabytes (GB) is the specific threshold that defines excessive use of our service. We have an excessive use policy because a fraction of one percent of our customers use such a disproportionate amount of bandwidth every month that they may degrade the online experience of other customers.

250 GB/month is an extremely large amount of bandwidth and it's very likely that your monthly data usage doesn't even come close to that amount. In fact, the threshold is approximately 100 times greater than the typical or median residential customer usage, which is 2 to 3 GB/month. To put it in perspective, to reach 250 GB of data usage in one month a customer would have to do any one of the following:

* Send more than 50 million plain text emails (at 5 KB/email);
* Download 62,500 songs (at 4 MB/song); or
* Download 125 standard definition movies (at 2 GB/movie).

And online gamers should know that even the heaviest multi- or single-player gaming activity would not typically come close to this threshold over the course of a month.

In addition to modifying the excessive use policy, the updated AUP contains other clarifications of terms concerning reporting violations, newsgroups, and network management. To read some helpful FAQs, please visit http://help.comcast.net/content/faq/Frequently-Asked-Questions-about-Excessive-Use.

Thank you again for choosing Comcast as your high-speed Internet provider.

Well I am below that yet its killing my connection every time I upload now.

I want a upload cap because their obviously is one that they are not saying.

Though shame I was hoping GiB.

Yeah Comcast also gives you bottom of the bin service when you're late on payments, and then doesn't raise it back up. We just got comcast internet where we moved and it was blazing fast, then we weren't able to pay the installation and bill on time, and although they didn't shut off our service, our upload/download speed still hasn't been restored to it's original glory after we paid.

If you're downloading a lot of shareware that may be it, not from reaching a cap but because of the usage. My friend gets his service disconnected for a few minutes frequently as well when he was downloading a lot, so he cut back.

But yeah isn't proving Tech support wrong great? Kinda like this lol.

Well when I moved to where I am, the only option was Comcast. I really wanted DSL because of the price...

But I'm glad I got Comcast. The speeds have been great and it keeps getting faster. I've only been living here for about 4 or 5 months and I've seen it go from 12mbps to 28mbps download speed and the service is continuing to improve. :)

Comcast is the worst bunch of jerks if you have ever seen any... Rather than paying for a connection to the WWW, with Comcast you are actually paying for data. If other ISPs start setting limits like Comcast, I think I might just get a T1 line, be my own ISP, and sell service to others.

So is Comcast a bad choice for me to upgrade to? I'm tired of the unholy screeching modem.

If they are your only choice I guess go with them. If you have any other option at highspeed Internet, go with it

Sounds like a less bittorrenting for you. You may want to consider switching your ISP.

I don't torrent...I upload a lot. Legit use within the "bandwidth cap" what I do with it is my own business not theirs.

Yeah Comcast also gives you bottom of the bin service when you're late on payments,

I don't buy it if I can't afford it. I haven't had a late bill / unable to pay since I was 16. Not your typical American with credit cards maxed out because I needed a "iphone" etc.

So is Comcast a bad choice for me to upgrade to? I'm tired of the unholy screeching modem.

I been a customer for almost 10 years but they are just giving me the ring around over and over so I would say screw them get DSL or FIOS.

ive had comcast and have very few issues. i run a server for family and friends. they all use a ftp client for upload and download. You might want to look at what ports your using.

I don't see how that is a issue since I don't use torrent.

or the fact it just started to happen vs the past 5 years I been using RS to upload.

as far as i can tell its the use of bandwidth period. i never used torrent. but i have been contacted from comcast before.
