comp restarting randomly

Hello everybody!

I have built a computer few weeks ago.
It's:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ EE
Geil Value 2×1GB KIT 800MHz RAM
Gigabyte GA-M61VME-S2 motherboard
Gigabyte Radeon X1600 PRO graphic card
Creative X-FI Extreme Music sound card
Seagate 160GB SATAII hdd
Samsung DVD/RW
LC Power LC-2019MB case with 350W PSU

I have installed Windows Vista 32 bit and been quite happy with my new computer till I found out it's restarting every few days.
It's restarting without any worning window. Sometimes it's during I'm listening to music (Winamp) and surfing on internet but sometimes I only listen to music and doing nothing with my mouse or keyboard.
Sometimes it just shuts down like I would unplug power cord and sometimes It just 'hangs up'. I can't move mouse pointer then and music from Winamp is like from broken CD. I have to shut it by unpluging. But once I got blue screen and message sth like: Computer shut down to prevent damage to your hardware.

I installed Everest to check temperatures and voltages and that it seems OK. Even when I put computer in heavy duty work. CPU temp is about 49°C then ( 39°C in idle).
Also strange is that when comp is heavy duty working (rendering in AutoCAD) for a few hours alltogether, everything is OK.
That's why I don't blame PSU or even other hardware. I have also put memory to MemTest86 through night and it didn't say any errors.

I have installed all latest drivers for motherboard, graphic and sound card.

I somehow think restarting is not hardware problem, but maybe some program or driver is not compatible with vista. I don't know.

Did you have any similar problems or have any clue, why would my comp keep restarting?

My pc also had some problem like tht before but im using wndows Xp not a Vista. so i have solve it by reinstalling my windows. the eror are caused by system windows that corrupted or some missing windows file. it also happen by installed driver that not sign or not compatible by ur operating sys. also u can try to restore back ur system at early time. did u create any partition to ur hardisk? if not i advise u to create a partition to ur hardisk because if any eror, virus attack or system failure, u can simply reinstalling without miss any work, media or important file. :)

I've had a very similar problem with my computer. It wasn't fixed, even tho I've had it for 3+ years.

It will usually restart within the first 30 minutes that its opened and NEVER when I play a game, but sometimes it will restart just when I play music with iTunes even if I opened it for 2, 3 or 4 hours.

It was not a pre-built pc, but I did not built it myself.

kilauea...did u do anything to fix it???

omg this is a true story...after reading this thread...i was gonna watch some nba (dont bash if u dont like basketball) highlights from last night and my comp restarted....should i just reformat? ill do it..just wanna make sure it works lol

omg i was transfering pics from one hard drive onto my external one before it restarted..n while it was transfering it restarted...so now like half the pics r messed....im sad now...can anyone tell if there is a way to fix it? it says that the pics have no preview available..

I have installed Windows Vista several times but it's restarting all the time.
Somehow I think it's vista thing.

Of course I made also partitions. I allways do. But thanks for reminding.

haha, sorry to hear your pictures are messed up

No, I haven't done anythng to fix it, its just totally random, but usually after 3 times I am kind of safe. Usually it restarts on its own after a while when I am not on the computer... So ya, I have had this computer for a while, I think its 4 years actually and its been like that since day 1.

There even was a time when I would try to rush to get into my game so that I'd be "safe", but it would often restart a little before I could get in, that was so frustrating.

Anyhow, I am telling myself that I will do my best to live with it until the end of summer when I'll probably build myself one stable computer.

well i mean its never happened to me b4...i keep the computer on all night sometimes when im bored n lazy...but it just happened right after reading this thread(freaky)...and while i was transfering pics (disappointing) im gonna try to reformat sometime soon

ok then, im sure it was problem by ur windows vista. how about u try other cd windows vista. mybe the cd that u use now have a corrupt file that effect ur system.

I think I might have found the problem.

I think allways I had a restart I was listening to winamp streaming Radio Paradise from internet.
But yesterday I did it with Windows Media Player and after few hours I noticed an error in WMP playlist. It said sth about connection to Radio Paradise was lost. Windows on-line error help said some code of error and that I should check certain settings in WMP, but there was everything like it should be.

I think some error occures from time to time during listening to Radio Paradise and WinAmp can't handle it, as it is not fully officially Vista supported yet. I'll check it on Radio Paradise forum.

I'm still not sure, but I think that's it. I'll get sure in a few days.

I had a very similair problem with my computer, It would just restart!

It ended up being a driver that was clashing, it was something like ATIDL2.dll

or something...

Right Click, My Computer, and I'm not too sure where but some-where in the options there is a way you can stop it from just restarting when it encouters a problem, it will give you a BSOD telling you the file to blame!

This will help us a lot when trying to find out what is causing the problem.
