Comp says connected, wont load anything...

This seems to happen at random times (about once a day). Sometimes my computer says that the wireless network is connected, but I cant load any web pages. Or sign into AIM or Yahoo Messenger for that matter. I go into control panel and disconnect from the network and reconnect again, but it still won't work. I have to restart. I don't ever shut my comp down, just put it to sleep, I don't know if this has anything to do with it. Any suggestions?

Sounds almost like a router problem. When you're connected, what all can you access? Can you access say another computer on your network, or the router? Or when this happens, can you get on using other computers?

Don't have other computers on network, just this one. I can't access anything that I would need to be online for, even though it says it is connected.

Yea it sounds like a router problem. Have you reset the router manually or can you even access the router?

You know; if it's a Linksys router you go to your browser and type 192.168.1.1 and you get a configuration page. Even if the internet isn't working, this will work if the network is fine.

If you don't know your router's IP address, go to Start, Run, type CMD, then type ipconfig /all. Whatever's listed as your Default Gateway should be your router.

It doesn't say LinkSys anywhere on it, it is just the router that came with my verizon dsl package. But I did what you said and got the same IP address (192.168.1.1) so I guess it is.

I will try this next time it happens, and then come back here and tell you what happened.

Thanks.

ps: I'm assuming you mean to just enter the IP into the address bar in firefox?

It might also be because he has a too low signal for internet....It is conected but doesn't have enough signal to receive the internet data..

Ok, it did it again. When I put in the IP address for my modem it asked me for a username and password (which I don't know if I would have that somewhere or not, I didn't set it up). It said: Enter username and password for "Modem Secure" at (IP address). I click cancel and the page says: 401 Authorization Required.

So, it seems like I can connect to my modem, just not anything else. What would that mean?

Well if you can get that far it's obvious that your network is working. You either have a simple gateway problem of some sort(bad network settings) or your modem isn't connected.

I have not changed any network settings, and it used to work fine. Maybe I should just call Verizon and ask for a new modem. Anyway, thanks for your help.
