Hey everyone.. I just built my brother a computer and have everything put together correctly I think.. I turned it on once and it started up for like 2 seconds.. I got an error code.. and then it just died. Haven't been able to turn it on since. I tried a different power supply with it and it still didn't work. Here is my system specs.

AMD 3000+
Epox EP-9nda3j Mobo
512 mb Geil RAM
80 GB Western Digital SATA HD
420 watt PSU (came with case)
anything else you need to know just ask.

The error code was posted on the mobo.. no fans ran at all.. I could hear it start up.. nothing showed up on the screen.. The error code was either EE or FF something close to that.. it was only there for a few seconds.

ok.. I tested a few things and found out that my PSU and my RAM work.. So the only other things it could possibly be are the Mobo or the CPU. When I first installed the mobo I forgot to put the standoffs in first.. so I may have shorted my board... So I took the mobo out and put the standoffs in. Then I put the mobo in and hooked everything up.. still got nothing.. It almost seems like it is the power supply.. but i used it on a different computer and it worked.. Right now I have it narrowed down to either the CPU or the Mobo.. I e-mailed epox tech so hopefully they have seen this problem before.. Also if you short circuit a mobo will it ever work again?

standoffs? would that be the colunms or spacers? That's exactly what I did to my computer, fried the mobo and cpu =(

yea.. those are the spacers between the mobo and the case... So when you fried your mobo and cpu could you return them or did you have to buy new ones?

also when you fried your mobo and cpu did they look fried.. or did you have to test it to find out it was fried?

Alright well I requested an RMA from Newegg and I will be shipping it back on Monday so hopefully that was the only thing that got fried (there weren't any burn markings on the mobo or CPU though). I think I am gonna try a different board this time. I didn't like the placement of the 20 pin and 4 pin atx power. They ran right over the HSF. I think i am gonna try the Gigabyte GA-K8NS Ultra. Hopefully I won't make the same mistake again.. lol
