ompact disc *REWITEABLE?....RW DVD+R DL??? ...DVD R/RW??


what are they and what are they for ...they say that in writin on the cover of modem
 
ReWritable anything, means the data can be erased and then more data can be written on. DL means dual layer, so its twice as big as a normal dvd. R = Recordable, RW = Re-writable, DL = Dual Layer

There are sticky threads at the top of some of the sections... before asking a questions take a look at the stickies.... especially when the stick says CD/DVD 101
 
A CD-r (recordable) means you can save things on it, but unless you multisession it, the cd gets closed and you cant do anything else to it. A CDRW (Re-Writable) lets you record stuff on it, but then lets you erase it all, and start all over again, as if it were a new blank disc.

Multisession is where the cd stays "open" for you to record more stuff to it. But it doesnt overwrite the data alreayd on there, just adds to it.

I just checked out the stickie, and I noticed there was no definition for DVD-RAM, which ive seen on sale. What are these exactly?

Its not exactly that easy, since with a floppy you can just drag and drop items to it, and do it virtually as many times as you want. With a CD-RW there isnt an easy drag and drop feature, most of the time you need to add files to a program and then burn them all at once. And CD-RW's have a lifespan of somewhere areound 25 burns.

Well, with windows xp, you can drag and drop the files into the cd explorer window, then click the "burn these files to cd" button, which is lamost as easy.

And CD-RW's have a lifespan of somewhere areound 25 burns.

Ive used them alot more times then that. Infact, its nearer 1000 times ;)
