CompactFlash for virtualmem...

Just a thought... You can get 1gig CF cards for less than $50. You can get a CF to IDE converter for just a few bucks. Ever considered using such a card for virtual memory. Some CF cards can be quite fast, I'm sure faster than a 1G HD! It would be silent, and cheaper than adding more RAM.

Just an interesting, and probably pointless idea, that hit me as I was tweaking my machine a bit...

Maybe tommarow I'll look for some actual benchmarks and see how fast the cards really are.

Sounds like quite a good idea, i'd be interested to see how it performs. Hard drive manufacturers are already working on integrating flash memory into the cache, so that instead of the current 2, 8 or 16MB caches we could have 1GB or more, so it seems quite logical. You'd get the benefits of getting the page file off the main hard drive, and also improving its access speed.

I get a sneaking feeling they cant keep up with say 40-60MB/s offered by HDD (not includcing cached xfers which are peaked)
