Hello, I am going to want to build a computer soon, i know my budget but i want to know like...wht company/brand would u pick if you were to build one right now? The comp I want is just a typical computer that can play games, watch vids, do hw etc and could last mayb 3-5 years

CPU: AMD: AM2 or 939?
Motherboard: wht company?
RAM / Memory: wht company?
Graphics: ATI vs Nividia?
Hard DRive: wht company?
Mouse/keyboard: does laser mean no batteries?

Thanks a lot

If you're going with an AMD chip go with AM2, 939 is on its way out and I don't know if there are any 939 motherboards that support DDR2. A lot of people on here may suggest an Intel Core 2 Duo though. Corsair makes great RAM and it's not much more expensive then others in its performance category. If you're thinking about a computer lasting 3-5 years and you're building it right now Nvidia has the only DirectX10 cards right now.

well, you can't completely eliminate ATI for video cards from the picture, that DX10 card could very well be out of the budget range. Although even on the older cards Nvidia tends to be the best performance for your money.

For video/graphics cards...wht company would u normally buy from? i currently have a msi...but do you go for company or just best deal on the day?

also for ram for a am2 cpu and a ddr2 mobo the best i guess...type of memory would b "PC2-6400 DDR2 (800Mhz)" right? thx again

I didn't say to eliminate ATI cards altogether, however, if he's building right now and he's wanting this rig to last 3-5 years all of the DX9 cards might be a bad option because he'd need to upgrade it at some point.

haha, PNY is usually seen as a shaky brand but I've had great luck with their cards and I don't think they are sub quality. I have an XFX too and I haven't had a problem with it but the fan is really loud, the PNY's are a lot quiter. I can personally attest to 3D Fusion being crap. EVGA and BFG are usually trusted.

Even if ati releases the directx10 cards, the price will bring down most of the people since 400+ dollars for a card is way too expensive, when you could pay around half and have one with DX10.

About the mouse being laser, it means that isn't the kind of mouse that has a ball, but a laser which by putting it into something solid it'll move the mouse
