The fan is constantly running (quietly) on my computer. Strangely enough, I don't remember if it has always been like this (have had computer since Dec 24)- or if I just never noticed it before.
My computer used to feel kinda warm sometimes- but if I remember correctly, the fan would just loudly kick in and then shut off. Today is when I really started wondering about the fan. The computer HAS been cool at least- but I just want to know if there is something wrong with the fan, or if it is always supposed to be on (quietly)- I do know some computer do stay on, then just rev up when needed.
Could someone help me- as if there is something wrong with my computer/fan, I would like to get it checked out.
I am usually never in a totally quiet room, as I have a 9 month old and my husband play Xbox 360- which has a loud fan running all the time....

Re

If its a old Laptop the fan starts to get old and dirty and it wont have the same performances , could be a problem with the fan, what i think is the dirty stuff that every notebook gets.

Also there may be a program in ur PC that can limit FAN SPEED check and tell me ok

EDIT: Sorry i didnt saw it that ur PC was 1 month old i totally guarantee that its not the dirty stuff on the fan

this is a new notebook- got it on the 24th of Dec.
after searching, I think I have found a setting in the start-up utility that turns fan on always- or off and then on when needed. must restart computer to access this. am going to, and will be back to share results.
thanks!

Re

I thiink if u want to have the fan running all the time and keep the PC cool choose the always on option.

the computer already had the setting at always on- disabled that function- just to see what happens. i restarted the computer immediately after I last posted, - but then I had to lower the mattress on my son's crib, so I stepped away. I came back to check two times if the fan was running and it was- even though I chose to disable the constant running of it. So I don't know. Mybe it just needs the fan right now.
At least I know that my initial inquery was due to the factory setting....

look if u dont keep ur Laptop on the table but on carpet or legs it will become hot thats is normal but sometimes it will become hot anyway dont worry the laptop are desigend to be hot but not to hot!!!

I generally keep the laptop on a lapdesk- so it should have room to cool. and the few times I have used it on my lap/bed, I religiously check it every few minutes and lift it to make sure it stays cool- this is when I'm just skrewing around on the internet or what not.

Thanks for all your help- much appreciated.

My brother has the same laptop. The fan seems like it's always on because the laptop runs hot, and it needs the fan to run to cool it down.

I wouldn't worry about it..

Micheal- I did some more research and actually found this:
there is an option in the set-up menu (where you hit f10, or esc then f10- the factory setting of the fan is to have it always run. You can change that setting to off- where the fan run when it needs to. Thanks for your help- and if your bro ever wonders, you can tell him that.
