Compaq CQ57 Question

i have a Compaq Presario CQ57 laptop. The O.S. is windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. 2 Gb Ram.

I bought this laptop a while back at Wal-Mart being it was under $300 dollars i had to have it. it's been an okay computer but a while back i was having issues with it overheating. i took it apart and seen nothing. well it hit critical temps several more times after that. well i took it apart again and took the Heat sink off the Processor. Please Note, i had to remove it because it was all in one Piece. i found my issue. bunch of dust had collected itself blocking the air way.

well now my laptop has not yet hit critical temps. but i have noticed a big performance issue. My Question is this. When a computer hits high temps several times can it affect the Performance of the Processor over time? I'm a Noob that is trying to learn the world of computer technology. So Please dont Bash on me to much. Thank You

Yes, overheating can damage a processor. You might want to do a fresh install of windows as it may help. Also, uping the ram to 4gb should help too.

Thats what i was thinking. Thank You for the input. i'm really wanting to build my own computer. this Laptop needs to be thrown in the dumpster but being that it is my only one i wont be doing that anytime soon.

Question on the ram. being that mine is ddr3, still trying to figure out the difference between ddr2 and ddr3. should i spend the money upgrading my laptop or would it be wiser to put that towards a computer build? is the Compaq Worthy of an upgrade? i read that the processor isn't upgradeable. dont wont to throw money at junk lol.

Sorry For the Questions. I'm really wanting to learn more on computers and its hardwares.

Yeah I would definitely think about saving money for a new computer. Laptops are famous for overheating. But with windows 7 you really need about 4gb of ram especially if you have an antivirus program running at boot up and other things. If it was acting decent before the overheating then maybe you can try doing a fresh install and see if there a difference. If not, then time for a new one. Not only can overheating damage the cpu but also the motherboard.

i did a fresh install of windows. actually i did around 7 to 8 times since i owned it. thank you john for being a cool person! means alot to somebody when they are trying to learn. #Thumbsup
