Compaq Evo D5S

I have purchased a Compaq Evo D5S (windows XP) from the internet for my mother who will be using it for basic stuff like web browsing, skype and possibly Office work. It comes with 512mb of Ram but I would like to know the maximum this could be upgraded to and would It make a difference? (it also has a 20GB hard drive and an Intel Pentium 4 processor @ 1.5GHz) is it possible to overclock the processor? if you can, how do you do it and by how much?
