i have a compaq presario sr2010nx. it will not boot windows. i do not want to lose all my info on it. i was wondering if i

Boot from CD
choose to install windows xp
and then install it w/o deleting the previous one on there if i will lose my stuff

What exactly happens when you try to boot into windows? We may be able to fix your issue.

You might want to try downloading the hard drive makers disk diagnostic utility and burn it to cd and then boot to the cd and run the long test on the drive so it will check it for error. Or put the drive in another computer and run the test.

not to be rude but can you please answer my initial question

If you boot to the install cd, you can do a repair install which in theory keeps your existing data and programs intact but anything can happen. Just don't delete the partitions. However, the first thing I do when it won't boot into windows is check the drive for erros, I've been working on computers for 15 years.

This is the issue i am having
when i start up my computer it goes to the screen auotmaticly that lists
Safe Mode
Safe Mode w/networking
Safe Mode w/comand prompt (might be 2nd i am not sure)

Restore to last good known confirmation
Start Windows Normally

ALL choices restart the computer. It goes to the windows load screen for less then a second then a blue screen real real real real quick then restarts. The blue screen flashes so quickly i can not even get the first word read.

I tried to repair the registry by doing the steps listed on Microsofts website where i enter alot of different stuff such as Copy filename filename which is a link i got from another website.

The Hard Drive is a SATA, i do not have another computer that takes sata or i would install it in that computer and try and repair it off another computer.

When i boot from the CD and i go to "install" windows press the F8 I do not have a choice to repair it. Which is the main reason why i asked if i

Install CD
Enter to install
F8
then install windows w/o deleting the whats there if the files that are on it will stay in tact.

Sounds like you have a hard drive error, which either running checkdisk using the recovery console bor making the diagnostic cd from the hard drive manufacturer will fix the problem.

if the checkdisk is chkdsk (or something like that) is what you mean for the first one then i did that. if not elaborate on what you mean. Also where do i get the diagnostic from. the hard drive is a Seagate Barracudea 7200.9

Could it by chance also be the power supply not giving enough power to the Hard drive? will replaceing the power fix the problem?

What I ended up doing is finding a friend that had that cable and found out that the system totally crashed. NOTHING was on there. I ended up doing a clean install of XP. THank You ALL for your help.
