Compaq Presario V2000 (Overheats and shuts down)

Hello Everyone:

My mom has a Compaq presario V2000, with a Intel Celeron M Processor 1.30 ghz 480 mb Ram, with windows XP(home)

Her Problem is when she leaves it on, it overheats and shuts down. Does anyone know how to fix the problem?

Any sudjestion would be great, I'm doing this for her because she doesnt know much about computers, and forums:)

getting her a new battery wont do squat, it's overheating because either the fan aint working, or it's not working right...

One, the correct grammar would be "overheats" not "over heat's"
and
Two, i would reccomend a laptop cooler from Newegg, they will usually help with overheating.

Hmm, I almost bought one of those. The V5000 though, it looked better :P

I'd recommend checking to make sure the fan is running. If the air it is ejecting is REALLY hot, and you don't hear a fan running...it has issues. If the fan is running, and it still overheats, something's defective. The V2000 doesn't have a record for overheating, I'd call up Compaq and see what they can do for you.

If it can't be returned/has no warranty, you could try replacing the fan yourself (provided it's dead). A replacement fan should be very cheap. If it's not dead, but still overheats...look into getting a notebook cooler as previously suggested.
