Compaq virus

I have an older compaq that I believe has a virus, judging by the way it was acting before it totally shut me out, telling me that it either had a virus or the hard drive was corrupt. I know you can link two computers together, but can you link them to have one computer scan for viruses? Thanks.
Edit: I tried to put it into safe mode earlier, but it won't enter it, as it can't boot up.

yes you can. If you want to link them, get a crossover cable and connect them.Put them on static IP (any IP,but keep gateway epmty) and share the C drive of the infected PC (keep in mind that yours need to be fully protected)..then scan..

or if you can't afford that take the compaq HD and put it in your pc or an external casing and scan.

hope it helps

Pull the hard drive out of the infected machine and plug it into the good one as a slave drive. That will allow you to run a virus scan on the drive, and hopefully remove any threats.

I called a local computer supply place (also for other electronic items) and bought and external enclosure that plugs into the usb port. How do I get it to scan that drive?

since your old drive is now an external drive, just plug it and it will pop up saying "found new Hardware"..then "your hardware is installed and ready to use"...
it will then give you an option of what you wanna do with the new found drive.
or go to my computer right -click it and scan

Yeah, that's how I figured it worked, but it won't. The icon with the green arrow pops up, but doesn't say anything. When I am in my computer, it doesn't list anything. Also, while this hard drive is on, it slows my HP down, like to where it won't load programs, in some cases.

Extra HDD's do slow a system down, for example, when my dad's Mesh failed we used my then-defunct eMachines 420 which has a Celeron 2.6GHz. It took a lot longer to boot and stabilize with the new drive, yes we had to leave it for 15 minutes to stabilize! One cure was to install a less system-heavy anti-virus.

External enclosures will typically require that the jumper on the drive is set to Master. I suggest you confirm that yours is set correctly first.

How do I set it to master? There is and on/off switch, one push button switch (doesn't seen to have a function), and the usb cable, which has two ends, just in case your pc doesn't give enough power for the hard drive to operate.
