Comparing Processors

What processor is "Just as good" as the AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 4600+ Processor w/ HyperTransport and Dual Core Technology?

A wild guess would be he wants the comparison to that with an Intel processor. I dont really know. Somebody else will.
Well I sorta figured that, but in most cases, the processors aren't directly comparable

Look at the label on the side of the processor. It should have a 'goodness' rating out of 10

Remember when the Athlon XPs came out? The 2800+ was supposed to be equivilent to a 2.8ghz P4? Just something like that...

A Processor that would perform as good as the X2 4600+. The Computer would mainly be used for gaming.

I dont think it works like that.

An AMD 3200+ isnt comparable to a P4 3.2ghz. AMD and Intel have strengths and weakenesses in all different aspects of computer usage. They really cant be compared.

I've heard that the rating system just compares how fast an older core would have to be in order to be as fast as the "current". For example, a Athlon XP 3200+ Barton core would be as fast as a Thoroughbred A/B running at 3200MHz.

I would say the Intel Extreme Edition 955/965. However those are almost $1000.

However if you ask us that again at the end of this month, we will be able to show you a similar Core 2 Duo processor which is much cheaper.
