Hey, First time posting here. I need some help, basically my computer is old, I went to get a new processor memory etc to upgrade it but im running into a problem.

My old processer is an Amd Duron Which is a Socket A processor. I can't even find another socket A processor on the internet or PC world! I keep seing a few links however when i click on them, and read the specification, it comes up as socket 750 ( or something along those lines). Would that be another name for socket A or is socket A just really old and has no products available for it now?

Thanks.

Socket A processors arn't produced anymore. besides that, its pretty pointles (Imo) to upgrade to a newer socket a CPU, since its basicly outdated already, or will be very fast.
I think you would be better off getting a 3000+ s939 venice and a s939 AGP motherboar, and i think some pc3200 DDR RAM ( if you dont have pc3200 DDR400) RAM yet already.

you're best bet of finding a newer Socket A CPU would be Ebay tough i think,.. just make sure your motherboard supports the CPU you want to get if you get a socket A CPU again

Guess, i need a new pc then. To be honest, i'm just looking something with a decent processor and a good graphics card. I'm talking uk prices here. But i'm looking something for under £300. With something like

AMD Athalon 64 3200 +
512 PC3200 DDR Ram
256mb Geforce graphics card
40gb hard drive (have a 250gb external)
Cd Rom Drive (DVD or burning isn't important)
No floppy drive.
Basic Mouse/Keyboard
a Decent motherboard With built in 10/100 network card and about 6 usb ports

Ready made! That could be done for less than £300?

that should be more than do-able :)
let me have a look, just a sec ^_^

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/113979 motherboard £43.62 inc VAT

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/106659/rb/22454308152 (case +PSU) £29.98 inc VAT (but better get a other PSU, this is just an example ofc :o
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/116158 a DVD-drive £21.14 inc VAT
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/111197/rb/22454367312 Grafic's card £42.73 inc VAT (NVidia, 7300GS, 256Mb)
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/113697/rb/22454412575 £33.67 inc VAT (80Gb hard disk )

this together is 274.92 pound, leaves you 25Pound for a better power supply. and i think its not so bad for a pc,.. ofcourse some parts will be suggested otherwise by other people, but i just made this one on the fly :)

Edit: i jsut saw i left out the floppy drive.. :(
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/23925 £4.12 inc VAT
so its 279.04 total (incl Vat)

great for the value, i dont know how good its upgradable tough with the grafic's card. i mean, it is posssible it only has the onboard grafic's, and no AGP or PCI-e slot. but other than that, a pretty nice machine for its price :)
