Compatibility

Below are specs of a computer I'm considering buying:

Windows 7 Proffessional X64
Crucial RAM 6GB DDR2 800MHz (3 DIMMs)
DUAL Graphics/Video Cards NVidia GeForce 9600 GT 512MB DDR3 w/ SLI enabled MOBO!
23 inch full-1080p LG Widescreen LCD monitor!
500gb WD Caviar Blue SATA 7200 RPM w/ 16MB Cache 3.0Gb/s HDD

Would any 6 core processor(s) be compatible? If so, which one(s)?

The seller is not at the computer right now (I was communicating via text message), but he said it is an acpi-x64 based motherboard. That is all he knows at the moment. He's pretty sure it's from the Asus "Republic of Gamers" Line.

It would run those just fine. Your socket is 775, so you're limited to two things. First, it would be what motherboard you have and what CPUs it supports. When you find out what motherboard you have, consult their website and see what CPU your motherboard supports.

Second, it would be a 775 socket, so here are your choices:

It would not support a 6-core. Your CPU is pretty good, the third best core2duo. You might be able to up to a quad 2 core, but that depends on what kind of motherboard you have.

You'd be better off to up your GPU to a single, powerful card.

Thanks, I actually just learned a lot about compatibility between motherboards and processors by searching keywords that you mentioned.
