compatibility?

You are really pushing it with the power supply. I would replace it if you can or as soon as possible. Do you know what brand and model the 350W is?

Unbelievable.

Completely and utterly irresponsible.

Just because you 'did' it doesn't make it a good choice. God.

A Dell 300W PSU was never, ever designed for a ANY discrete gpu.

The 5450 may be low powered but telling this guy to not worry about the PSU is completley and uttterly irresponsible - especially from a mod.

AND, given its an investment is 20 bucks. Just very poor advice.

The Dell 300W PSU probably has 18A MAX on the 12V rail (if you're lucky), not factoring in derating or capacitor ageing. Deduct for its poor quality, age etc etc, you're probably looking at 12A (144W).

Even ATi recommend a minimum power supply of 400W. And manufacturers always urge on the lower side of requirements (due to wanting to sell graphics cards to as many people as possible).

Its not about watts mate, its about the amps on the 12V rail and the quality of the PSU itself.

Your going spec crazy, the 5450 is a LOW end card, it does not impact the system at all, we have dimension 5150s and e521s running 7300 LEs, 5450s, 6450s and even 9500GTs, and maybe out of the 50-60 machines we have floating around the office id say we have had maybe 2 of the psu's fail, and that is within a 7 year period of the machines lives. That is pretty damn good if you ask me.

do some of them have as low end of a psu as me?

EDIT: if anyone ever answers this. lets say the psu isnt good enough for it, what would most likely happen, and what would be the worst case scenario?
