Combatibility
For a processor to be combatible with a motherboard it needs to be
the same socket (like you pointed out) same L2 Cache, same FSB
Your motherboard can support a celeron and an intel pentium 4, as long its got 400 FSBm, socket 478 and the L2 Cache is 512kb

Fortunately HP provided the specifications for the Asus P4SD-LA model at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c00062430#N273
The only 400mhz fsb model with a 1mb L2 cache that newegg has listed can be seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819111250 That;s only a 1.6ghz model there. No Socket 478 models were found at either mwave or TigerDirect with a 400mhz fsb.

The link there was the only found with a cpu that will go right on the model board you have there. With the Core 2s out newegg and other vendors aren't stocking the older models. I was able to locate a 2ghz P4 model seen at http://www.bizrate.com/cpus_computerprocessorupgrades/pid6435575/compareprices.html however.
