My son is turning 12 soon and wants a gaming computer for Christmas and his birthday.

I have not built a system in years...I need a good review and some advice if you see anything. I am right about my max budget, about $1100 is what I want to spend. All will be purchased through Newegg.

I am going AMD/ATI based system, all I ever used was Intel/Nvidia...I think it's all compatible.

Case: Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-01 $40
Power Supply: Corsair CX600M $55
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 $110
Processor: AMD FX-6350 Vishera 6-Core $110
Processor Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo $35
Ram: CORSAIR Vengeance (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 $75
Graphics: GIGABYTE Radeon R9 270X $175
Hard Drive: Western Digital Black $70
Monitor: Samsung 24" LCD $140

Of course there will keyboard, mouse, BluRay drive, custom lighting, custom fan grills, fan filters, some dremel cutting, some painting. I am also putting all Corsair red LED fans in it all throughout.

Unless you're overclocking ditch the 990 board and get a 970 chipset board coupled with an FX 8320. They're only 100 bucks on Amazon right now. Also you can probably find an R9 280 for not much more money if you're open to it.

Also there's a decent chance that the Vengeance RAM will have clearance issues with the 212 air cooler. Try and find something that's not as tall. I have the RipJawX RAM, which is shorter, and it still is putting slight pressure on my 212.

Honestly, an i5 4690K, and gtx 760, along with a z97 chip set board would be more powerful.

Also, grab a WB Blue instead of a black. Its like 30 bucks less

True but he stated he wanted an AMD/ATI build. Oh and Scout, ATI doesn't exit anymore. It's all AMD now.

CPU - FX6300/ AMD FX-8320E
RAM - personally will get something with DDR3 2133. I don't think that are much difference in cost.
case - Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-01 only has one fan included at front. I suggest get another one to exhaust at back/ top or get SPEC-02 or 03
