I am troubleshooting a Toshiba "Satellite" Laptop (2007) that is having audio problems.

The laptop is not outputting any audio. The user says that she allowed friends to hook up to exterior speakers, and states that the audio just "quit working." I have done all the troubleshooting I can and I am hitting a wall.

The laptop's sound card is perfectly functional. The audio driver is as well. The sound is produced (when looking at the sound panel the bars from light up when sound is produced) however nothing can actually be heard.

The mic does not seem to record sound.

Any suggestions??

Sounds like you simply need to quickly insert the 3.5mm jack in and out until it prompts the sound card to kick in again. Seen it quite a few times before.

Also investigate chipset updates and bios updates. Try and completely uninstall the hardware and resinstall after chipset and bios updates.

Thx guys. I have indeed made sure that the internal speakers are not turned off. I will try inserting the 3.5mm in several times and see that works.

A little more info:

External speakers and mic do not work. I do have a SABRENT USB device that when plugged in a computer recognizes as seperate speakers/mic. External equipment will then work with it.

Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
