Completely Confused with Connecting PSU to GPU? Please Help!

I started my build today, and am just at the stage of wiring everything up. However, I have hit a dead end with the GPU power connection, or it's just me being stupid or something.

I have a XFX Radeon HD 7950 Graphics Card

and a OCZ ZT650W Power Supply

So the PSU came with a PSI-E cable with a 6 + 2 pin connector. The problem is, where it plugs into my GPU, there is a 8 + 6 pin connector? I understand that the 6 + 2 makes a single 8 pin, but what about the additional 6 pin left over, do I need to use it? I've posted everywhere and people are telling me all different things...

Any realistic help would be great, thanks.

I checked online and the graphics card requires a 6 pin and an 8 pin connector. So yeah, you need to connect both.

It might run with just the 8pin, but I wouldn't think that's healthy, o I don't suggest doing that.

Your psu should have came with 2 pciexpress power cables, you must use both on your video card.
