I was more looking to see what I could get cheaper and still be able to max MW3. I can forget running linux on it until I build up the media server. I will probably go for Linux on it, so that is not the determining factor.

If I can run MAX on MW3 @ an acceptable resolution with the 6770 then that would be great. But if not then the 48- would be the choice. I don't think I really need the 6870x2 if I can avoid it because I have seen here time and time again that Linux and windows drivers are not the greatest for AMD.

seems that my Modstream 600 watt has 2 25 watt 12 volt ratings. I am not sure if that rating is for each modular PCIe plug or if that is the Processor and the PCIe.

I would never buy 5.1 or 7.1 setups. You're much better off buying a decent pair of monitors. All these systems with a sub and satellite speakers are seriously lacking in midrange and bass in the 80-180hz region.
 
My 4670 held its own playing MW2. I think a 6770 would be fine. Just think that you have to match 2005's best graphics card (when the xbox came out, console port) and you'll be set.
 
Okay. So that narrows down how much power I need. Now let's see how nvidia compairs. What is the nvidia version of the 6770?
 
550ti would compare in performance. But I'd get a 460 before a 550ti. Beats the 6770 and 550ti by quite a lot. But the cheapest one on newegg is $140. If you'd consider used, I'm sure there are a ton out there.
 
I want to buy new. I can spend quite a bit actually. I was going to spend $240 I believe for the 480 so I am saving $100 on that.
 
okay, so buying parts thursday for sure. Hopefully this list will be good for now. Advice would be great if yall see anything that can be gotten cheaper elsewhere or the like.

-better than I need. Better than I want. Cheaper than newegg, and I am getting a new PSU anyway, so this will be a good option and should remove the query in my mind when shopping for games. Should be able to play anything out there at good settings, yes?

Its a HAF 912 and will have all the fan bays filled up. So it has good airflow, well as good as it is going to get. Plus it is intaking air-conditioner air from the bottom, so should be able to stay fairly cool.
 
I have a 5.1 speaker system attached to my desktop computer and feel it is way overkill. I'd recommend no more than 2.1 or 3.1 for a computer unless you have it setup as a multimedia hub in the living room or something like that. I have my setup in a bedroom and placing the rear speakers is a PITA.
