im using FRAPS to record my gameplay. the raw clips, in .avi format is HUGE. a 1 min video is 1gb in size. how do i compress the video? i've seen dvdrips that are of the same quality but only 700mb for 1.5hour.

Try mediacoder. I has everything you need but it maybe too complicated for the first time user.

is there an easy way to compress the video using mediacoder? i downloaded and installed the software but now im a bit lost as to what to do next. can i compress it like how software convert video? import file -> choose quality -> convert.

I import the .AVI into adobe premier elements which costs money I think, then use total video converter to size it down. (not sure if that costs money) - However, I did have problems, as anything over about 200mb would crash total video converter, thus the need for dual converters.

Use my preset.

I using h.264 codec for video and aac for audio.
It has great compression ratio without any loss of quality(maybe).
Also i use mkv container.

Just load preset using my preset and choose the files want to encode and press start.
If you want to resize the resolution, under picture tab tick resize and choose the desire resolution.

Note:
change the file extension from h.264.txt to h.264.xml. I did that because I cannot upload .xml file.

thank you. that worked. :):):)

I should recommend ashampoo movie shrinj and burn. U hav 2 just specify the output size and it wil compress it, accordingly.
