Compression error messages on many sites

Hi guys,
I recently changed my internet provider service and upgraded my equipment. Since that time, I have not been able to get on Yahoo or anything related to Yahoo and have had problems with Firefox and I.E. I can use Chrome but not if I have to go to a Yahoo related site. Firefox and I.E. will allow me to get online but many of my favorite sites are blocked with an error message saying that there is a compression error. Chrome's error message reads: Error 330 (net::err_content_decoding_failed):unknown error.
Firefox and I.E. says it fails to load because of a compression error and to contact them directly and let them know. How can you let them know if you can't get into the site?

Photobucket is one I can't get into, Flickr is another. JibJab is another. I had a problem with allfreeknitting but today I can sign on with Chrome. Can't get into Netflix. Or squaretrade.com.

My internet provider is wildblue.net and they have been really helpful and spent over 1 1/2 hours trouble shooting the problem that we thought was a router problem. But now I am hooked directly into the modem without the router and I still cannot get into these sites through any of these browsers.

AND, I can't access any of the search engines to look up compression error. None of the search boxes on the browsers work. My computer is an HP with XP Pro.

Does anybody know how to fix this bug?
Thanks in advance.

Do you have another pc that you can try accessing the same websites and see what happens? Do you know of anyone with a laptop that could come over and access those sites?

My husband is on the same network. He can get onlline and receive and send mail but can't access my websites either. When you do a search for anything, it comes back unknown file type and refers to MIME. I installed a new router and everything is working correctly but neither one of us can access the listed websites or do a search of anything and get an answer.

I'm just curious here. Did you have your dns servers set differently? Check your tcp/ip settings to make sure dns address is set automatically.

I don't even know what a DNS server is. I plan on calling my provider tomorrow and try to get them to walk me through whatever settings I need to change. Everything was working fine until I changed equipment. They told me since my router was so old and was a "g" configuration, that the new equipment wants an "n" configuration and that might be my problem. So I got a new router but none of this went away. I can't access any links sent to me in email nor can I do a search to read up on compression errors.
I'll post tomorrow what happens with the internet provider.
Funny part about this is when I click on Chrome, it immediately starts loading Chrome but there is also another tab trying to load Yahoo.com. I can't find out how to get rid of Yahoo, the Yahoo toolbar etc. All my home page settings have been changed to either Bing or MSN. but it still is trying to load Yahoo. Where from???? Beats me!

OK, here is what my tech support said: My DNS settings are set to automatic. Everything is working from their end correctly. They don't have any way of trouble shooting browser errors. I told them there has to be something in this setup that has changed my ability to search online. All browsers were working before the new equipment was installed. So bring back my old equipment and forget about upgrading. IMPOSSIBLE! he says. They are sending another tech out to check installation and connections but they cannot trouble shoot Windows problems or browser problems. So I am SOL.
But I also noticed that in the last week a little box appeared in my taskbar that says "search desktop" and has a magnifying glass next to it. In addition, there is a magnifying glass in my task bar that says "indexing complete" when cursor is over it. I don't know what that is or if I may have checked something I shouldn't have or if it even relates to the search problem on the browsers. Could it be related?

You have chrome set to open 2 tabs with 2 different home pages. Check your options to disable that. I'm not really sure whats going on but they need to come check it out why you can't surf anywhere. There is a setting screwed up somewhere either in the modem, router or pc's.

Them telling you that you need a new router is bogus. Can you explain your setup on how you are connected to the internet? Do you have a modem and then a router or a modem/router combo unit or exactly how are you connected?

My setup is with modem then router then computer. It is not a combo unit. The modem appears to work correctly as does the router. It is something in the settings as you say, but I am kind of nervous to just rely solely on FIrefox to get to the internet when I need to. I tried to uninstall I.E. so I could re-install the latest version but for some reason it won't let me uninstall it. In an effort to resolve the problem I did a system restore to the day before the equipment was installed. It didn't solve the problem with I.E.. It is still trying to access yahoo.com. Firefox seems to be working temporarily.
What other browsers could I use besides Chrome?
While I can access the internet through Firefox, my husband can only get to the main page of the website but cannot go any further. No searches etc. Same thing with I.E..And I am limited to Ask.com for searches. Nothing else will go through.
I am stumped.
Thanks for your help.

If you are willing to do so and approve, I can access your system if you install a program called Teamviewer and try to figure out what is going on. All I would need is your ID number and password it assigns you. You can email me the id and password.

http://www.filehippo.com/download_teamviewer/

Click up top right where it says download latest version.

Does this sound like something you don't mind doing? If so, I'll give you my email address.

Dear Johnb,
You are a prince among men! I trust that you are an honorable man and I would be glad to turn over the whole mess to you. I will download the teamviewer file if my computer will let me do so. Thanks a million

Email me that information to edited out. Don't close teamviewer or the password will change next time you open it.

Hmmm that's strange. I posted an update to my last one saying that I have downloaded the teamviewer file and have received an ID and password. Let me know what I need to do next. I sure appreciate your help.

I replied back to your email, the ID number you supplied only has 8 digits, you need 9. Please send the correct ID number.
