Computer and Monitor both fail? Same time??

My 6 year old computer just up and died 2 days ago. Purchased a new one and set it up yesterday. Everything went very smooth. Using the same monitor. Went out to eat and came back a couple of hours later. The green light was on,on the monitor but nothing would happen. I turned the monitor off and then turned it on.

When i would do this the screen came on for 5 seconds and then go black again. Would do this all the time. Hooked up an old monitor and it worked. So is it safe to assume that my monitor is shot? How could the computer and monitor break at the same time? Am I missing something here? Thanks!

It seems to be a very low odd coincidence to me. If it's CRT then the tube may have went out. I've seen some quite awesome fish tanks made out of old CRTs

The monitor is a Westinghouse 20 inch LCD flat screen and is about 4 years old. It's just hard for me to believe that both broke at the same time.

Bought new monitor last night and everything is working fine. Learned a lesson...the computer AND moniter can break within hours of each other.
