Computer boot problem

Hello all. I have a computer that will not boot. It will go all the way to the log on screen. Then the username and password are typed in. However, it freezes after that screen. We have went into the directory with the Windows CD repair and deleted what appeared to be viruses. What should we try now?

If the repair didn't work, I'd try one more think, Control Alt Delete, and start the program explorer.exe

If that doesn't work, and the repair doesn't work, you might try a reformat.
