Computer Broke - Need Help

Computer booted up properly this AM and was running Firefox and browsing OK. I tried to open up my stock market program and it froze up. Cursor frozen, couldn't do anything. Unplugged computer and tried to restart it. The fan started very loudly but would not boot up. The monitor was black. I tested the monitor on another computer and its OK. There is power to the DVD and CD drives. They open and close. There normally are a couple LED light on my motherboard that I can see when I look inside the case but they are not lit now. I tried pressing several "F" buttons while it started up but this did nothing. I put in the computers 'system recovery disk' in both drives while booting but this did nothing. To me it seems the motherboard has failed but I'm not very computer savvy. Any advice/input would be appreciated.

Sounds like you may need a new mobo. You may have also had a power surge, thats knocked out some of your components. Did you build the pc yourself or did you buy a branded pc?

Thanks for the replies, I'll probably end up getting a new 'puter unless someone comes up with some sage advice.
