Computer Build - Advice needed :)

Hi guys,

I am building a new computer and need some advice on what components to get. I haven't been in the computer scene in a while so need to be updated along with my computer. :P
Ill let you know what I'm thinking of doing and we can go from there. I have a case, dvd writer, screen, PSU (may need a more powerful one) and HDD so really all I need is MB, CPU, Ram and Graphics Card.

The system will be used for gaming with recent games, Autocad and Revit, DVD Burning and Internet browsing/online games.

My price range is around the $500 AUD Mark (~350 USD) but can go a bit higher.

CPU - I'm thinking an Intel Dual Core around a E6600.

Graphics - Maybe a 8600 GT, not too sure about which card to get.

Ram - A couple of Gig DDR2

MB - Nothing flash, just something it will all fit into. Socket 775 and 1066 FSB (Depending on CPU), DDR2 Ram, needs Sata for my HDD, PCI-E.

Let me know what you think,
Thanks for your input :)

Well I'm looking for the best big for buck, either ebay (:s) Or a store called 'ItWarehouse' which has warranty and peace of mind.

http://www.itwarehouse.com.au/index.html

Off of this site:

MB - GA-P31-DS3L 1333fsb - $119.00
CPU - E7400 Core2 2.8ghz 1066fsb 3mg - $225.00
RAM - 4 gig kit 800 MHz - $ 79.00
GC - MSI 9600GT 512mb - $179.00

= $602 AUD ($430 USD)

Does this seem like a decent price for what I'm getting?

Another site for over here is
http://aandr.com.au/index.cfm

This site has more of a range.

Anything I could change?

Thanks,
Nathan

That all looks pretty good bomberboysk, ill probably go with the 9800gt but depends on whether I need a power supply.. The one I have is a cheap 400w power supply with 12A on the +12v rails. What do you think?

And what do you think you could do for me Granite? I'm in QLD, on the Gold Coast :)

Thanks,
Nathan

Hmm, my build is close to bomberboysk. The parts i've used are from MSY, their abit cheaper than other places. *TIP* i heard some where that ITwarehouse sometimes sell secondhand components, they are usually more expensive than what you can find at MSY.

Ok here it is

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_711_678&products_id=8452 $183 from MSY. Ive got this motherboard, and it's great! it stays cool and overclocks nicely.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115206&Tpk=E7400 $183 from MSY

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231207 $67 from MSY, you could get the added heat remover ( forgot what its called ) for abit more.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150316 $196 from MSY, i like the XFX brand better than Galaxy. Most people would choose XFX over Galaxy but depends what their after.

All equates to $629 dollars, plus it's locally so you can pick these up whenever you want without paying extra for shipping fees etc.

Other parts you need you can ask here, PM for more info where bouts MSY is. I hope i helped you alot!

Wow That all looks really nice! How about a PSU? Would my current PSU be able to run this, what would happen if it doesn't have enough power?

And where's closest for me to get this stuff? I'm in Ashmore, near Surfers Paradise.

Thanks for all your help,
Nathan

Ummm having a cheap 400w PSU would not be a good idea, if you can spare some change i could whip something up. Theres 2 way i would go, if you want to game right now etc keep the 9800gt and get this PSU http://www.coolermaster.com/products/product.php?act=detail&id=55 for extra $83. Which would equal $712. Other route is to drop the 9800gt and get a 9600gt for $153 dollars and get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371016 considering other PSUs didn't have as good amps on the +12v rails (or you could find something better). That option would be good for future upgrades which totals up $697 ( yeah every dollar counts hehe ). Depends what you want to do really. :)

The info on top of that link should give you help to find the store.

For an extra $15 do you think its worth getting 9800 and a better PSU?
Ill probably go down and pick it up tomorrow if they have it all, I found a store close by too, thanks :D

Hey,

I went down and got it all today. They didn't have the E7400 so I had to get the 7500 and didn't have the motherboard you said but had the GA-EP45-UD3L instead, is this stiill ok? Now I only have one problemo... The sound isn't working. I installed all the drivers but nothing happened, and I did some research and read something about the audio codec being left out in SP3...?? Any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks for all your help so far,

Nathan :)

Sorry for late reply, just got back in from Melbourne hehe :) umm make sure you have tried all slots, bet you have already but just making sure. Have you tried downloading the latest Realtek drivers from their site? It usually comes wit the disk and everything comes together. Im not sure what else to provide. Btw how's it running?
