i was wondering, if i build a computer that was lets say 1500 dollars now, how much lower do you think it would cost lets say by april 2009? im talking about every part of the system including the case, psu 1 gpu cpu 1 hdd no raid, 1 drive. i would not go el cheapo on one part while putting in something else rediculously powerful. i just want everyones guesses and thoughts, im kinda planning ahead for when i get outa school and i get the money to build a computer :)

RAM will probably never be cheaper than it is right now, for DDR2 800mhz at least.

hard drives are pretty stable in price so no more than a $10 drop, same with RAM
CPUs constantly drop so in 5 months you could see as much as 100-300 depending on how much it originally cost and how new it is when u buy it (brand new $900 now will cost much less in 5 months but $200 CPU will only drop a little)
GPUs follow roughly the same price curve as CPUs
PSUs don't change much.
Cases don't change much either
Motherboards can vary but generally stay stable

So depending on the % of the price your CPU and GPU is you can save anywhere from $100-$300 (maybe more if you blew your cash on a flagship GPU/CPU) in 5 months.

Im not sure about that after walking into my local comp store PB Tech and seeing a sign stateing all price in store will raise from upwards off 10% due the state of the NZD also ive noticed at the retail store i work at i find prices go up more then down. and also the cost of steel has been rising so some prices may go up in computers

Retails store love to raise prices and will look for any excuse to do so. I often see $50 graphics cards for $120 at Best Buy.

:S wow thats a big difference.

so i guess cpus and gpus only go down fast cuz they are always coming out with something better, whereas cases and psu's keep there value more because nothing breakthrough happens with them.
