I am helping a friend pick parts for a new computer. When he comes back from his Vacation he will buy the parts needed for a new Computer. His budget is No more than $500

At the moment is all the money he has collected so far, so what do you guys think? If this is a bad build, what do you suggest? And if the build is bad, post what build you think is better. Much appreciated again all!

I'd say not bad. The only thing i would suggest is spring for an extra gig o' ram. I'm sure you'll be planning on running Vista on it, and with the parts you're buying, it would be pointless to put in 1 gig. So ya, go for at LEAST 2. And of course go for the dual channel kit. May not make much difference, but for the same price as a single channel stick, you may as well...

DDR2 1066 is hardly worth it... you could go 2x2gb for 4gb total for $35.99 ddr2-800:

Also, would recommend an intel e5200 and G31/P31 mobo over amd.

And for $1 more you can get a dvd/cd burner over just a dvd-rom:

And would recommend a 9600gso over 9600 gt because 9600gso has 96 shaders while 9600gt has 64 shaders.

So what i put a build like that to this wishlist here:

Ok, maybe this gpu would suit you well:
Twin slot cooler 9800gt;)

Or replacing the G31 mobo and gpu in my build with this combo would be similar in price after mail in rebates(could always sli then if you wanted;)):

Combo seems expensive and Rebates are a pain. Got another motherboard that goes well with my build? The Mobo you gave me on the list is out of stock. =/
