computer build for this winter

I am hopefully going to build my first pc this winter after the price drop. I think I have everything picked out except for the motherboard and case. Here is what I got so far:

CPU:

Case: don't know if I will keep this or not

RAM:

PSU:

For the video card, I am going to get an 8800GT. Just don't know which one yet.

I already have a dvd drive. I will probably buy a hard drive but that is no big deal.

The thing I am not sure on is the motherboard. I have no idea. What would be a good motherboard to get? I would like to have SLI.

The computer will be used for playing games like COD4, Crysis, maybe Timeshift and some other ones, also regular stuff like surfing the web, listening to music, and FAH. If anybody has some better suggestions, I am listening.

Antec 900 or p180. The first has a lot of fans and is great for cooling. The second is supposed to be quiet, and for cable support.

Ok, I have been doing a lot of looking and came up with this. The CPU, RAM, and PSU are the same as above in my first post.

For a motherboard, which one would be better out of these two:

This is the case I chose:

Since this is a mid tower, will I have plenty of room to work in it?

Here is my GPU:

I may change this to a 8800GT since they are cheaper, have not decided yet.

Now my hard drive:

I will also buy a dvd drive but that is no big deal. As for sound, I am just going to use onboard sound for now to save on costs, I may upgrade later. If anybody has any suggestions, my eyes are open. Let me know if there are any compatibility issues or you see where I can get my price down.

Sorry to bug you guys again. I still have not built a computer yet:(, mainly because of money. I want to build one so bad I just may bite the bullet and spend the money.

Anyways, I have been doing alot of research, reading reviews and stuff. Here is what I came up with so far, I know it is over 1000 dollars but I want to do this once and be done for a while, you know what I mean.

MOBO:

Case:

CPU:

PSU:

RAM:

GPU:

HDD:

DVD Drive:

OS:

Are there any compatibility issues? I will be able to use the new 45nm core with that MOBO, correct? If anybody has any suggestions, let me know. I am trying to build a future proof system if that is possible. I also want to be able to upgrade in the future if I need to. Is there anything else that I would need to buy like cables or anything?

Again sorry to bug you guys again. I know I have been posting on here alot on this subject. I want to get this right the first time.

I just realized that I forgot to add thermal compound but that is no big deal. I am going to get that AS5 stuff.

The things the reviewers are saying about that motherboard are true. That, and it's overpriced because it supports DDR3 but you've got DDR2 RAM.

The DDR3 compatibility doesn't really future proof it since it's only got two DDR3 slots and they can't be used at the same time as the DDR2 slots.

Everything looks good but I would recommend a nice case. Nicer cases are usually easier to work on and are just cool to look at lol...

What is wrong with the case I picked out? I would like to have a full tower so I have plenty of room to work with.

I am just so confused on the MOBO. There are so many to pick from. I would like it to be compatible with DDR3 memory so I can upgrade to that in the future if I decide to.

One of the reasons I picked that case, may be a dumb reason, is it has 8 fans. One thing I noticed is it is a little small compared to other full towers.

What case do you have in mind?

I still don't know about the MOBO. Is x38 the better chipset?

X38, P31, P35, 780i, are all good 45nm compatible motherboards. I'd recommend any of em.

The Antec 900 is a extremely great cooler. Although the number of fans may be smaller, the fans are larger and perform better on the 900.

The one thing I noticed about the Antec 900 is the PSU goes on the bottom rather than the top. To me that doesn't seem right because most of them are on top.

About the processor, which one would be better or multitasking and gaming, the q6600 or the e8400?

Q6600 will perform worse in gaming than the E8400, but better in multitasking.

Hmm, well it also depends on the motherboard you pick. It might not support 45nm's.

Well, I am definitely going to pick a motherboard that is 45nm compatible. Thanks for all the help so far.

No problem. Keep in mind that the P31 and P35 series, although compatible, require a CMOS flash to run the processors. If you feel unconfortable or afraid to do this, the 780i and X38 natively support 45nm's, thus you don't need to flash the CMOS.

As for right now, I'm still debating how this is going to work. The E8400 excels at gaming and the Q6600 blows multitasking away.

Which of the 2 do you do more?

I probably do more multitasking but I go through spells where games is about all I do. Now I am really getting confused.

What about the case? Do you have any suggestions on the case?

I guess it depends on how much multitasking you want to do and whether that would be greater than the need for gaming. As for the case maybe have a look at the CoolerMaster 690, its fairly plain but i think it looks nice and will you really need 8 fans? I have a P35 mobo and it suits me fine but i guess it comes down to personal preference and what you will be using it for.
