Computer build problem motherboard/cpu

I have the CPU in the motherboard and my initial test failed....no video. I hooked up the power supply to the motherboard, CPU, video card and when I turn on the power the fans spin but I get no video.......I know the power supply is good.....the video card is good.... the monitor is good. The problem lays in the motherboard/CPU which is the more probable culprit the motherboard or the CPU.

What video card do you have? Did you use the brass standoffs between the case and motherboard? What power supply do you have? MIght help to know what are your exact system specs.
 
This test was done outside of the case no stand offs necessary. This problem lies in the motherboard or the CPU. I admit I am not experienced enough to know the answer to my problem but if a video does not appear which one is the problem. I am thinking motherboard is the culprit to prove it I would have to buy another 200 dollar motherboard to test and if I am wrong I am stuck with two motherboards. The power supply is Corsair AX750, how does that help?
Further information: when I upgrade I pass off the exchanged equipment down the line to my other computers which resulted in my taking apart one of my computers. I took that motherboard/CPU tested it in the same set up as the first test and it passed along the video nicely.
 
Just to confirm, you attached the 4/8 pin cpu power connector from the power supply to the motherboard? What video card do you have? Did you connect the pci express power connectors to the video card if it requires it? Again, knowing the exact parts you used may help out determining what could be wrong. Do you have memory installed? Do you hear a post beep? There is a lot of info missing here.
 
I was trying to be brief and to the point CPU or motherboard! Yes I connected the 8 pin to the board who uses 4 pin I would like to know? The video card is a Sapphire Radeon Hd6850 and yes I had power connected to the video card.The Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB was inserted correctly in the motherboard, I did not have a motherboard speaker to attach however if it beeped I would have no problem as a beep usually indicates success.
I appreciate your quick responses but posit a scenario where everything is done correctly without a resultant video is it possible to know which is causing the problem.

I can't give you an exact answer, thats the problem. Thats why I'm verifying everything is connected properly. Are you using a cpu that the motherboard supports? Have you tried resetting the cmos on the motherboard? It's hard to help you when I have asked for the specific parts you are using and you won't tell me. You may not be using compatible parts. If you want to be sure what could be wrong, then take it to a computer repair shop and pay a diagnosing fee and they can tell you exactly but without having the system in front of me, I can't give you an exact answer.
 
Asus P8Z68 V Pro (motherboard), Intel Core i7 2600 K LGA1155Processor, Corsair Vengeance DDR3 2x4GB memory, Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 1GB GDDR5 (video card), CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus CPU cooler, Power Supply Corsair AX 750.

If I ever get there it goes into a Corsair Obsidian 650D case.
 
If the fan on the video card spins up, most likely the video card is good. Lets try resetting the cmos and see if that does anything. Remove power from the power supply, remove the cmos battery from the motherboard, if the case wires were attached to the motheboard, you should press the power button a few times to discharge any remaining power, then wait 5 minutes. Then reinsert battery, reconnect power and try booting up. If that don't work, then you'll have to take it in for a diagnostic to determine what is wrong.
 
Still did not work I attached motherboard speaker and there was no beep. If I had the patience to take it in for a diagnostic I would but I probably will not do so. This motherboard and processor are both brand new out of the box so I will return the one that is faulty whether it is the motherboard or the processor has yet to be determined. My bet is on the motherboard although I am not one of "those" who refer to "fried" motherboards. I actually find motherboards to be a lot tougher than most people give them credit for.

The frustrating part is the time I should have been up and running this past weekend. Oh well!!!

Actually when you start the system up and nothing happens, IE; all the fans turn on but nothing else happens, also points to a bad ram stick :/ Whether just one ram stick is bad or all.... Had this happen before....
 
When all is said and done...and I have returned both the motherboard and the processor and reordered the same again I have to say that I have lost confidence in my ability to do this job. I have been going over in my mind what might have been wrong I always have confidence in the board and processor I began to focus on the one thing I took for granted the RAM and now you sir have pointed out that very possible cause. There obviously has to be a reason for this failure and I will go out and buy new RAM to have on hand on my next attempt. Do you have a favorite as far as RAM is concerned.

:) Relatively cheap... But wait untill you get your mobo and processor back... Cause if all worked, then I was wrong :) But just think if it is the ram then you get a new mobo, CPU, and ram :D

Don't loose confidence :) It is all part of learning.... I have done the same in my computer travels.... I have spent a LOT of money making mistakes, but now it makes me a more knowledgeable person about the mistakes, tho very costly, that I made :)
