Computer Build Suggestions/Comments/Help

Alright, I've posted a thread earlier in the beginning of summer for a computer build, and I gave that to a needed brother. I've been working on this for about 2-3 weeks adjusting and adding stuff to this build. Now my budget is roughly $1400 give or take $100.

Questions I have:
Is this all compatable?
Is the PSU big enough? ( the reason why its so big is that in the future, instead of building a whole new system, i can just add another GTX 580 or possibly a new GPU)
Is the GTX 580 a rip off? should I go for a smaller card?
Antec 902 an efficient computer case?

Yes, it's all compatible.

You could probably get a better power supply for the price. Wattage isn't everything and though the Rosewill eXtreme series isn't "bad", you'd be wise to pick a more stable one for an expensive build like this. A good 850W unit will hold that rig plus another 580 with a little room to spare. This XFX unit would be perfect:

The 580 isn't a ripoff at all. Significantly more performance than the 480, with much lower temperatures and power usage.

The Antec 902 isn't bad, but you can probably do better for the price. Would you prefer full tower or mid tower? (full tower cases are larger, but have more room to work with, and usually have better features)
 
I, too, think you might want to consider a full tower for the reasons Drenlin lists. A lot of room to work with and nice features.

However, that is a very good price on that Antec. I have a CoolerMaster HAF-922 and though it is designated as a mid-tower there is a whole lot of room to work with and is close to space allotment of some full towers I've worked with.

^ The one I posted is much better than that corsair. In terms of stability, the TX line can't hold a candle to an M12D-based unit like that XFX.
 
Would i have enough room for the Antec 902? or should i go full tower to be safe?

If i need a full tower, what would be a good case?
 
The 580 would fit in the 902, yeah.

The 902 is a better case than the scout, but the scout is by no means "bad". If you like the look of the scout more, then it'll be fine.

Just sharing some info that I found useful. I picked up the Spire Thermax Eclipse II for $50. Also, the egg was selling 8 GB of G.Skill ripjaw ram (2 x 4GB) for 89.99 just yesterday. Looks like it is out of stock, but you may want to keep checking back for it, that's a great price.
 
I believe the motherboard has triple channel memory slots, I cannot use just 2 memory sticks when i need 3. Although i am interested, thanks for the suggestion!

Well, you can use dual-channel memory with i7-9**s, but it's better to go for a triple-channel kit like this , because i7s are optimized for triple channel RAM.

I would certainly prefer three DIMMs over two
 
I was doing some more researching/browsing around, and i caught a glimpse of the Radeon 6870.
Would that be a better option to go for?
Does it have the same performance as the GTX 580?

I noticed it was considerablly cheaper than the GTX 580, yet saw some reviews regarding it has relatively the same performance as the GTX 580.

Then I also saw the MSI Radeon 5770 would that be a good choice as well? I've read people threw them in crossfireX mode and they were just unbelievable.

Or even 570 fermi? that actually might be the card to go, fraction of the price of the GTX 580, yet just a little less in performance.

The 900-Two was on sale last week at NewEgg for $65 and at that price I'd say it would have been a no-brainer. It's a large enough case that you'll fit all of your components and the cable management is better than some people suggest. Also, it seems like an especially well cooled case with all of the fans.

At $110 shipped though, I might at least shop around a little. Lian Li has been selling some apparently nice cases at that price or less. I like this one.

Also, when I first showed up on this forum with a build list I included the V8 cooler and Bomberboy suggested going with the Thermalright 'True'. I'm not sure that that'd be the suggestion today, but I'm guessing that for $60 someone could suggest a better cooler.

And, as always, I'll mention that if you have access to a Microcenter you can get your CPU at a ~$85 savings.

Oh, and on the 580, I'd wait a week and see what AMD releases. They are set to release their competitor to the 580 on the 13th.
