Computer building.Help me pick a MOBO and AMD processor

I will be using it for mulitiple applications more so than Gaming.

I am big on being able to upgrade in years to come so I don't want something that two years down the road I cant add stuff too.

I like AMD and I like Gigabyte.Budjet is $250 for these two items.I would like to order from Newegg if possible.

I want it to be upgradeable to 8GB of ram in the future.Going to start with 4gb.

So start rec comending.

First of all upgrading to 8gb will require a 64bit edition of Vista or the next version. The present chipsets are still geared for a 4gb max even while the boards say 8gb or 16gb on many of the latest models.

The 6400+ or 6000+ X2 would the faster pair of AMD AM2 models seen for under $200 at this time. For saving further the 5200+ X2 is seen for $119.99 at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103767

For a Gigabyte board in particular there are 3 models currently in stock for $99.99 or less seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2000200022+50001314+1070921489+4027&name=%2475+-+%24100

The preference here would be on the model with the nForce chipset while likely to be looking at Asus and MSI models as well. The Asus M2N-E saw the first board replaced fast from a problem while the second has been going strong since last August. That can be seen now for about $40 less at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131022

Thanks for the suggestions.I want to hear some more from different folks but those look like some good matches.

The reason I said Gigabyte is because I have had such good luck with mine over the past 5 years. Not a lick of trouble from it.

The three seen at the link there were the ones in stock at newegg. But you can always browse a few other vendors as well. mwave sees a dropdown list along with the same price for the 5400+ X2 2.8ghz model at http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=MB-BA24531

That will bring you up a notch cpu speed wise as well as a look at the 8 Gigabyte boards seen in the dropdown list for boards there. Just a quick browse sees a faster cpu with a few more boards.

GIGABYTE GA-MA770-DS3
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Windsor 2.8GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane black edition with Arctic cooling freezer 7 pro

TBH you dont know what you want, we know what you want. 4GB is not necessary, people are still just using 2GB and getting along just fine, how do you think half of us still use 32bit operating systems? we cant get more then 3.5GB of ram but we live.

AMD is on the losing side right now, and even though you like them and may have heard that they were a better low-cost choice, this is very wrong. an intel 4500 will destroy any processor that AMD can offer for the money, and it takes less then half the power of an AMD 5000 on full load.

Your best bet for your upgradability is to buy an e2160 with a gigabyte GA-EP35 motherboard, which supports 1600FSB and the new quad cores.
