Computer Business.

Hey guys and gal's, man i havent talk to you guys in a while. Im sorry I have been out of the country last 7 months with my family. I want to start a computer type business. Its really to much to type but here are some links that i have been working on. Tell me what you think. I am looking for NOOBS and perhaps even the veterans to help me out on this one.

This is the video about my business:

This is my website its still being constructed right now:
www.freewebs.com/ronspc

Thanks guys
Ill be on Computer Forum for a while now :)

I'm at work right now on my iPhone so I can watch your vid cause I got no sound. The website is very plain, just says you like computers. What exactly are your services?

Indeed, the website looks plain. It looks kinda stylish, it's neat and so on but it's just missing something... even a slight addition like a cool bar/banner at the top with the business name would improve the looks a lot. Overall, though, I think the site is a great start, just build on it.

Yeah thanks guys. I am in the process of making the website now. I just started to put up a forum. Ill Keep you posted. my services lets see. My video pretty much explains it but ill give you short explanation.

basically i want to start a business were people (average to veterans) want me to either fix or build them a new computer. As we all know by building computers you can get cheaper prices and what you want. Instead of the extra crap that you may not need from like a sony, hp and so on. just a thought. im am gonna work on the site today for most of the day. After my homework :D

I figured basically the way i could make money would be on a criteria type list. For example:

How Fast the customer wants it. (Minimum 2 Days because of school unless its a weekend.) (maxium of one or two weeks.)

How complex the build is.

Those are bases. Im sure there will be more. So whatcha think guys?

ya justin ill keep you in mind. look for an email soon. i sure could use the help. any other people get a chance to look at my site and vid's

I tried watching the video but it was super long and I got bored. You're very mature for your age and I see the entrepreneur in you. I think with so many major-underground businesses that already build computers it's not that good a field to go in. Personally, I think you should start off MAINLY offering computer services, such as upgrades, installing of new hardware/software, virus/spy ware removal, etc. for a flat rate. If they need you to build them a computer then you can score on that too. Just hand out flyer's around town and see what happens. If you're good with 1 neighbor, word of mouth is the best advertisement you can get.

ya thanks for the input. thats a problem i have. I cant summarize basically what im trying to say. Im working on it.

I looked at the website and watched the video. I say I have to agree with some of the other posts. I would suggest these following things.

- Work on the web page. Make it look more professional, more business like. I would say you have to put the city or area that your services will be available on the site. Also include contact information on the home page, e-mail and telephone number. Also maybe put some links for certain things (customer reviews of your business, hardware, ect...) When you fix a computer ask the person if they can write a review about the service...good or bad.

- The video is nice....but not for a business website. You are telling your life story instead of selling a service. There is nothing wrong with having a video but make it about what you have to offer.

(video starts with business logo......a few quick pictures of computers flash and you are narrating in the back ground "If you live in BFE and are having problems with your PC, need an upgrade?..need a virus removed?..how about just a good cleaning?..Ron's Computer Enterprise in BFE can help you with computer problems. Then Maybe a video clip of you cleaning a very dirty computer....you narrating in the background "most people don't realize the maintenance involved with keeping a computer running healthy, Ron's Computer Enterprise can keep your computers running at peak performance that will extend the life of the computer" :)

That's just a quick idea for ya to get my point.:D

-If you are serious about this you also need to set up a work space....people don't want to drop off their $1000 computer to a kid on his front steps. Maybe you have room in the garage of a spare room in the house. Make it look as nice as you can. Get a small desk and some chairs. That way when people come over you can sit them down in a professional environment and explain what you can do for them. Maybe make a few nice binders (one for upgrades, one for virus and software problems, one for cleaning) that way you can show them what exactly you can do. Also include your pricing with these binders so they know what they are going to pay. If you can show a customer exactly what you will do and what they will pay in a professional environment you will get a good start.

Word of mouth and maybe an add in the local paper will get you rolling. Maybe you can also get a spot in the local Yellow Pages;)

You have a lot more drive than I did when I was that young, keep up the good work.

*******and if you ever get stuck and can't figure out a problem with a PC....you know where to come and get advice*******

thanks for that. your the only one who has given me any consideration. i appreciate that. by chance what do you think about prices.

"***Software: New software, such as operating systems (vista, xp), office (word, powerpoint etc.), music software, video editing. Software will be done in One-Two Day(s) also. Flat rate of $5.00. Thats for everything. From Operating Systems, Video Editing Software, everything ever made for flat fee of $5.00."

Are you saying that you will only charge a flat fee of $5.00 to install an operating system? Does this include device drivers? Chipset drivers? Service packs? Windows Updates? Hotfixes? Troubleshooting and testing the OS install before it leaves your shop?

For other applications you mention, does your $5.00 fee only cover installation of the software, or would some basic testing to confirm correct operation of the app be included?

Or is each one of the things I mentioned considered an individual service which will cost $5 each?

I'm not trying to shoot holes in your plan. I'm genuinely curious.

Tom

How are these people going to be paying for the services? You need to make sure your sight is secure if you will dealing with credit/debit cards.
