So I'm finally going to get around and put a new machine together and wanted everybody's opinion on what i should get. I;m going to ask for most of these parts for Christmas in order to save myself some money, because college is eating me alive

MOBO- Needs to support the new Yorkfield (Q9450) coming out in January, P35 or X38??
RAM- Open to Ideas; Ballistix, OCZ, Corsair?
PSU- Was thinking Corsair 520hx or 620hx?
GPU- 8800GT (if they ever become available)
CPU- Q9450 when it comes out.
Case- Bought (Antec 900)
LCD- Samsung 226BW? (anybody own one?)
Mouse/Keyboard- G11/ MX518 or G5?
HDD: No clue..
Sound Card: Own
Speakers: Own

This computer will be used solely for gaming purposes, along with the school work, and internet browsing.
Budget- Whatever my parents/relatives are willing to fork up :)

Thanks, Cupcakke

As for the motherboard I would get the x38 and not the x38t. The x38 uses ddr2 ram and the x38t uses ddr3. DDr3 is very expensive right now.

The x48 chipsets will be coming out in the first quarter of 08, but they will be running DDR3 only.

Also, the only x38 boards out right now support Crossfire and not SLI. But that only matters if you want to run SLI, since you can still run 2 nvidia cards in the motherboard, just not in sli. And you would only run 2 cards if you wanted 3 or more monitors to be supported.

The x38 boards should be coming out around January that support SLI and nvidia.

I too am looking to buy a gaming computer with almost the exact same specs as yours. Here's what I've come up with so far, (of course if something better comes up before the Q9450, I will consider it):
Mobo: Gigabyte DS3R P35 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128050 - Will support the Q9450, but not Sli. Sadly, there are currently no motherboards that will support both 45nm and Sli.
RAM: Crucial 2GB (x2) DDR2 800 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146565
PSU: Corsair HX520W - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139001&Tpk=520w - Currently in my PC, working great, and I'm sure it will support the 8800GT fine.
GPU: EVGA 8800GT Superclocked 512MB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130303
Case: Antec 900 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021&Tpk=Antec+900
Monitor: LG 22" Widescreen - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...=product&tab=2&id=1177112467150#productdetail
HDD: WD 320GB 7,200RPM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136074

It costs about $1,400 now, but some of the prices should drop a little.

Thanks guys, does anybody else have any thoughts on the X38 mobo? I haven't done an incredible amount of research on them and don't want to get it and have it be a total flop. :D

Thanks, Cupcakke.

It will be the first computer ive ever built and my mom isnt taking it well haha. She doesnt think i can build it myself :( O and i would go with corsair ram its fairly expensive but its fast and dependable.

Take in mind the new Quads will come out, as with the 9800's... and prices will drop lots :)

The QX9650 is already out :D
