I was just curious to what computer careers i could pursue after high school? Computers are one of my only passions, and i would love to live my life working with them. Im not good at any sort of math, so keep that in mind . I would preferr something that pays good :D, and dosent require writing any sort of code. ????

You could always become a Network Technician that pays VERY well and doesn't require coding but will require maths.

Try thinking about one of the non-explored computer related careers. In Egypt, the internet marketing is still in a birth, so E-Marketing Specialists are very few and qualified ones are extremely rare, that's why I chose this and went through it, I get almost double the salary of most my peers and work for a very respectable company.

Think about the E-Business & the E-Marketing man, it's still unexplored completely, and pros working in this field are rare, so usually they get very high payoffs.

you will prabally

1.Fail miseribly

2. barly keep the shop open with just enough to live on with sacrifices.

3. be very sucessfull.

it all depends on how you run the buisness and also competiters.

if you do this I would recomend taken some buisness classes at collage and ALSO save up lots of money before opening the store! this can be very inportant because ussally it takes a while for a store to get going good so many people dont have enough money and they have to close because they arn;t making money, when if they just had enogh for a few more months they would be fine.

but think of the good side, you can get lots of PC stuff very cheap for you if you do :)

Well as for me, i prefer coding, just sitting in front of the pc like a geek and coding. That pays great and doen't have alot of math, unless you want to learn in a univ. which includes a little math.

I'm gonna go with flame on the store idea. You've got a road ahead of you if you wanna open up a store. If you want to you need to look into taxes, laws, restrictions, and all that good stuff. You also have to worry about getting enough customers in to take care of the taxes, and the overhead of the store. AND if you end up doing a store that stocks parts you need to worry about going out of business and then having all those extra parts you need to sell just to make back the money you spent on it.

lets not dash the chaps hopes. If your willing to do you homework then there is no reason why you should be able to open you own store.
1) You need the experience so go and work in a store similar or bigger than the one you are hoping to open. Tell management of your intention and i'm sure they will try to accomodate you. If your willing to put in the hours i'm sure they will show you the back room logistics to buying, marketing and selling.
2) You will need a lot of cah in the bank, another reason to get a job.
3) See your bank manager, if you have a good well prepared bussiness plan you will be able to get a small bussiness loan. But remember one rule: "there is always, always someone willing to lend you money", so if your bank says no, there will be one that says yes.
4) Be prepare to work like a bugger for the foreseeable future
5) Keep a good credit rating at all cost, you need a clean rating when squeezing us suit for cash.

One very important question is are you wanting to be self employeed? or work for someone else? Remember being self employyed may sound glamourus but it is a lot of work and you may be able to earn more working for an employer.

Its interesting that your first suggestion was to open a store. That suggest that either it is a subconsious disire OR it was the first thing that came to mind due to a lack or research. Maybe you should chat to your career counsilor, they are a lot more useful than you may think.

Maybe you should consider IT project management roles, these will give you a more top level approach to IT rather than the hands on stuff.

If your adverse to coding then that knocks out a lot of IT consultancy. Coding doesn't need much maths knowledge, maybe you could look into it for uni / college

Are you considering going to uni. If so you choice of subject will have impact on you future career, if you hoping to set up on your own then something mixed with compsci and business management.

Try to address some of these questions and you may get a clearer picture

i'm no expert, but i do know it costs ALOT of money tostart up your own "business" of sorts. ou'll most definetly not want to do it alone, i know i wouldn't want to.

you'll need all sorts of "trust money" to start with, and plan on being in deep debt for the first few years of business paying everything off. and thats only if you do good, you might now come out on top for a very long time.

that and if you do run a "repair" kind of business there is always a big risk of getting sued and what not. as opposed to just selling products and sending them elsewhere to get fixed.

but that's about all i know. my dad was wanting to start his own business with a friend, and they already had trust money and almost enough funds to start. but they went over their plans and just figured it wasn';t worht it. there was jsut SO much money they had to get and it looked like they would never see a profit even if they weree moderatly succesful. so they decided to not do it.

i'd say start out small, don't jsut jump into something that intense. work in the computer industry (w/e field u can get into first) and see how things are. you might find its not what you want to do, or you might find out its just what you wanted. maybe be an employee at an individually owned repair shop and see from the owner what all is in running a place like that.

Why not build computers, and sell them off at a couple o' bucks more? It's what I'm doing right now... And I'm 14! :D

Also, fixing/repairing people's computers is a good business... You just have to get yourself seen ;)

Thanks for all the input! :D. I agree that opening my own store after graduation would cost a lot of money... . but ya gota spend money to make money... right? What made me think of it was the computer store where i got my computer built. Its only a small room, probably about the size of a normal living or dining room, and they build/repair. So what i was thinking was if I could find some room in a popular place, like a mall, or down town somewhere, just as big as a stores electronic department, and do it up nice, not like a dirty nerd store (Much like the ones down this way) and fill it up with various electronics, computer parts, games and have pre made computers on spot, and do custom computers and repair... well i cant see nothing that would go wrong. As long as my prices are good, and i have a pleaseable staff what could go wrong? The price to get going would probably be the same as what it would be for someone going to university studying to be a loyer or doctor. . Of course it would be rough starting off, but every career blows at the beginning

E-Marketing. The way forward.

What's the point in paying property rental prices, or buying property, council tax, security, insurance, public liability insurance, licenses and paying staff.....When you can have an online store run from your home? No staff required, your home is your warehouse. Look at Amazon.co.uk for instance. Where's the warehouse? All they will have is an office or two and they make thousands a week.
