computer comes on but does nothing

hi, i have an hp pavilion a1630n. and all of a sudden 1 day i go to turn it on, light comes on, fans run but nothing on the monitor and i dont think the hard drive is doing anything either. also the fan on the heatsink for the processor is very loud. like its wide open. ive tried disconnecting everything, hard drive, dvd drive. pulled a stick of ram out and still does the same thing. well i thought maybe a bad cpu so i bought another one amd athlon x2 4800 2.5ghz. the computer came with a 4600 cpu and i checked and the motherboard is suppose to be able to support a 5000. well with the new cpu you press the power button, computer comes on then imediatly shuts off. im totally lost, please help.

I think you must be check monitor or checked inside yours computer

Possibly a bad motherboard or memory would cause an issue like this.

Check the memory first, take one stick out, turn it on. Then try the other one.

thanks guys, ive taken one stick out, but ill try the other too. also on the motherboard i have a 4 pin connector next to the processor, and my powersupply has the plug for it, shoud i plug it in? i dont remember it ever being plugged in though.

plugged it in, works now. dang, i could swear it wasnt plugged in before, oh well shows how much i know
