computer cooling issue?

hi guys i just bought a new asus p5q deluxe mother board and im having some issues.. i THINK its cooling related to the cpu but i don't know.. my games (mostly L4D) lags at the most random places and its getting really annoying:mad:. i have the artic cooling 6 heatsink but it doesn't fit so rotated the heatsink so its fan is sitting next to the PSU. i think it may be this orr the fact that i may messed up on the thermal paste. i put a small dab on the heat sink and spreaded it evenly.. the thermal paste is artic cooling 5 ( i think its five..) either way here are my temps ( my cpu chip is the intel E6850 )

idle
CPU: 27.5 C
MB: 35 C
Core1: 33 C
Core2: 36 C
volt for cpu: 1.14

Gaming (L4D)
CPU: 43 C
MB: 35 C
Core1: 51 C
Core2: 55 C
volt for cpu: 1.18

its obvious theres a definate heat problem.. what do you guys think?

Temps look ok to me. What programs do you have running in the background while playing? Email, anti virus or other such programs can really mess you up when doing graphic intensive work.

Edit: It also might just be your network connection. Lag can be a pain.

thats the weird thing, nothing is running on the background, im running off a fresh install (no anti-virus or anything) i think i should mention that im running on the 180.70 forceware. on the old motherboard i had an older version and it ran fine. i have the 9800gtx i also am running off 64bit windows xp and have 4g's of ram

edit: its not network lag its more of a "comp is about to hang and crash" lag lol basicly the lag you get before the BSOD pops up which brings up the subject that ive had the nv4_disp.dll BSOD and some .sys BSOD

A couple of things come to mind, Driver issues or voltage drops. I see you have your future rig in your sig, what is your current system?

yea lol i havent been on the forums for 2 years =D i thought it may be time to come back. my rig is

MB: ASUS P5q Deluxe
RAM: 4 X DDR2 1066 1GB OCZ 5-5-5-15
Processor: intel C2D E6850
Video Card: EVGA 9800GTX
PSU: 700 WATT Thermaltake
HDD: (old 30GB because i fried my SSD)

You fried a SSD? Ouch!

Umm, did you do a fresh install of windows on that drive when you built the new system?

If it's an old drive, I hope it's not one of the 5400 rpm drives, if so that could be the cause.

Ok, I just thought maybe your transfer speeds were causing a problem, but that's not it.

Ok, you have a 30 gig hard drive with xp or vista?

And you have how much free space left over with games and such? A full hard drive runs much slower than a half empty one. If you are almost full, then that could be your lagging problem.

If you have vista installed, that could take up half of your drive.

Try defragging your HDD and see if it speeds things up a bit.

It really sounds like a driver issue to me, but not being there to look at it makes it very hard to diagnose.

Your temps look fine for idle vs load, and your system looks like it should do the job. So....

Look at your drivers, you said the older drivers worked fine, maybe go back to them.

lol thats the tricky part, i don't remember which forceware i had.. but thanks for clarifying the temps where good, it was my first time playing around with thermal paste.
