So, my computer crashes on almost every single video game I have installed on it. This list includes WoW, Starcraft 2, Fallout 3, and Rift. The only game it has never crashed on is Torchlight for some reason. All games as well as my OS are legit. Here are my specs-

Hard drive: Seagate ST3500418AS Barracuda 7200.12 Hard Drive - 3.5", 7200 RPM, SATA 3G, 500GB, 16MB Cache, OEM

RAM: Corsair XMS2 4GB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory Upgrade - 2x2048MB

MOBO: ASUS M4A785-M Motherboard - AMD 785G Socket, AM2+, MicroATX, HDMI, USB 2.0, PCIe

Graphics card: Diamond 5670PE51G Radeon HD 5670 Video Card - 1024MB DDR5, PCI-Express 2.0, DVI, VGA, HDMI

CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 255 Dual Core Processor ADX255OCGQBOX - 3.00GHz, Socket AM3, 2MB Cache, 2000MHz (4000 MT/s), Retail

Power Supply: Eagle ET-PSVT550E Voltas 550-Watt ATX 12V Power Supply - 550-Watt, ATX, 120mm Fan, PCIe, 10 Connectors

At first I thought that it might be crashing because my MOBO isnt up to snuff, but now I'm looking into the RAM and graphics card and am becoming suspicious of the RAM. I just ran a memorytest I found built into Win7 but nothing came up at defective. I also just uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers. Is there anything else that could be wrong with my computer?? This is really driving me crazy and I would appreciate any help.

This is my first build. Everything seems to work perfectly except for when I play video games, so I'm not sure if the way I put it together is making any difference.

What do you mean by crash? Computer shuts off like someone pulled the plug? The games crash to the desktop? Machine reboots? Artefacts present on the screen? I have a suspicion that it's the power supply. It's a junk unit, being brutally honest.

the computer either goes to blue screen and then restarts or it shuts off the game and goes to the desktop. it's always random. when you say its a junk unit, are you referring to the power supply or the entire build? i'm not sure how the power supply would cause crashes like this only when i'm playing video games

next time you turn on the PC, do the HD check (check for bad blocks), update drivers and do deferment, i'm not saying this will solve the problem but it will narrow it down. also try to unplug some of the hardware you are not using like optical drive additional HD's (just unplug the power cable should be fine) also what setting are you running the game at will also help to clarify the problem. what monitor are you using will help also.

The PSU, and I would agree with Linkin that the PSU is the first place I would look to. The reason it will cause crashes only in games is because it is a crap unit. When you are gaming and your system is under load, it draws more power. At the best of times it will be putting out unstable power, most certainly with large ripple and voltage values far off what they should be, so when under load, it will increase these problems, and if your components aren't getting the right amount of power, they aren't going to work properly, which is why it could, and probably is, your power supply

test your memory again, but use memtest instead, which you can download from here:

http://www.memtest.org/download/4.20/memtest86+-4.20.iso.zip

You will need to burn it to a CD as a bootable image file and then boot from the CD. Leave it running for 8 hours at least, overnight would be your best bet. If any errors come up in that time, it is probably your memory is to blame, but even if that happens, I would get that power supply sorted asap

okay, so i completely forgot to mention that i've already replaced my PSU. when i got the one mentioned i realized it was crap so i returned it and got a new one.
its a thermaltake TR2 600W. i researched it beforehand and it seems like a good buy.
thanks for the suggestions. i'll run that test tonight and see if anything turns up

i've tried running games on low settings as well as high settings. the computer crashes on both. How do I do an HD check? This is my first PC and i'm still learning the ins and outs.

this happen to me on my laptop.
my friend say, it cause my processor become hot
and he ask me to replace processor cooler thermal kit (sound like that).
after that, it wont happen again until now.

If it were restarting, I would agree, but it is very unusual for BSODs to occur from overheating. Can't help to check though.

Download HWMonitor from here:

ftp://ftp.cpuid.com/hwmonitor/hwmonitor_1.17-setup.exe

install it and run it, go into a game, then alt + tab out and see what the temperatures are like.

To test your hard drive, as you have a SeaGate drive, download and run SeaTools from here:

=EDIT=

How did you reinstall the drivers? What were the full steps you took?

Just ran seatools and my hard drive checks out. also downloaded HWMonitor and this is my temps and stuff without the game

I uninstalled the drivers normally I guess. I uninstalled the amd drivers, including the control center thing and then i went to the amd website and installed all the current drivers for my graphics card.

Download the latest drivers, but don't install them yet, just put them somewhere that you can find them.

Download driver sweeper from here:

http://downloads.guru3d.com/downloadget.php?id=1655&file=4&evp=b0e23b57cdae2217c3d377655ad3ce34

install it.

Go to control panel and uninstall CCC, restart when it asks if you want or do it later, it doesn't matter at this point.

Run driver sweeper (Start > All Programs > Phyxion.net > Driver Sweeper) and check ATI - Display, then click clean.

Let it run, restart and then install the drivers that you downloaded earlier and try again
