computer damage

if you are running big programs that are taking up a lot of your ram and they sometimes crash when they are being used, can this damage your computer? and if so in what ways? i use adobe after affects and premier and i can sometimes crash my computer because of lack of ram. is this bad or do i just need more ram? thanks!!! :D

It shouldn't physically damage anything, the most it would do is mess up some Windows files, but even thats a long shot.

More RAM would help, but in the meantime you can increase you're page file (virtual ram), which may help. Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory "change" > Then increase it to a number larger then what it already is.

how would i know how much to up it? the virtual memory that is?
What is it set to now?

I would say 2-3GB would be plenty, since I only have about 1-2GB for my PF size.

i dont actually know as im not on that particular computer but i will be able to find out in a few hours.

i think my pf maxes out at 1.34 or something like a long those lines. and what does this mean once ive done this?

Well if you're correct in saying that you dont have enough RAM, then alot of data is moved to the Page File. And if you dont have enough memory set aside for the PF, then you could run into some stability issues. So by increasing the size, you will allot more programs to have data stored there, and it may help you from crashing.

my virtual memory is set at 1536mb so its ok to run it at 2-3 gig? but the max size says 3072mb. so do i chnage the intial size?
