This is my first post here and I hope to become a regular here,
Right now I have a Hp desktop with a Pentium 4 3.2ghz, 1.5gb ram, 150gb hd
I'm going into my junior year in hs and im not sure whether to build a computer now that i would have for about 2 years until i graduate and move out or just keep this one for two years more, no matter which option i'll get a laptop to take to college with me so should i wait or build, and if i build my budget would be around $600

umm well i use my computer for normal stuff like firefox, word, photoshop, itunes plus games like grid (racing game) and flight simulator.
 
your old pc should be fine for average (a.k.a not crysis on high) gaming and more than adequate for office tasks.

I got a slighly slower CPU than you, but more ram and a good graphics card, and I can run games like Call of Duty 4 just fine
 
If you want to get into gaming, you can change mobo and add RAM and HD.
But it will fine with the work you want it to put on.
