Computer Doesn't Recognize Hard Drive

I recently ordered this hard drive to add to my system. I can't get the computer to recognize the drive. I have tried it in slave and cable select modes. I have tried two different cables. I have tried both positions on each cable. Nothing. The hard drive turns on and I can feel it running, but nothing happens. Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks. Here are my system details:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939
CPU: AMD Athalon 64 ADA3500ASBOX
System Memory: A-DATA VDBGC1A16 184-Pin DDR SDRAM 1GB (two)
Video Card: ATI ALL-IN-WONDER 9800 PRO
Hard Drive: Maxtor 6Y200PO 200GB
Power Supply: Rosewill RV500S

If you can't get it to recognize in the BIOS and the BIOS is set to auto detect the drive, the drive is bad.

If you can't get it to recognize in My Computer, but it's recognized in the Device Manager, go to Start > Run and type in compmgmt.msc

Go to the Drive Management and look for your drive in there. It will show up with diagonal lines through it. Partition it and then format it. It will then be ready for use. You'll see it appear in My Computer.

Thanks. That worked. I should have said that this was my first time using a second drive. Before, all I had ever done was just replace the first one. It took 3 hours to format, but it works now. Thanks.
