Computer doesn't recognize new drive

I barely know anything about the inside of a computer but I just installed my new samsung dvd burner into my computer in the same slot my cd rom/writer was installed using the same plugs that were plugged into my cd rom. My computer does not recognize the new drive at all but it does have power(the tray will push in and out.)

I tried to "add/install new hardware" but that did not find anything.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!
Andy

sounds like the data cable isn't seated correctly, check ti again and ensure that its plugged in and done correctly. Most will only be able to go in one way round. Trace it back to the motherbaord and ensure that it has not become unseated there either.

Worth checking the pins on the back of the drive where you plug it in too, make sure that none of them have been bent during installation

to make sure the jumpers are correct on the back of your new drive you will notice some pins and there will be a plastic cover over some of them this is the jumper ontop of the drive they will be a little diagram showing were to put the jumper for slave/sl, master/ms and cable select /cs, right now you know this you have to do this , if the drive you replaced is the only drive in the pc make sure the jumper on the new drive is set to master, if the drive you are replacing is one of two drives you have in the pc you have to determain if the one you took out was the master or slave in this case you already know the new one isnt being detected so if the jumper on the back of it is set to master move it to slave and if its set to slve move it to master
it should now be detected under my computer still make sure the power molex
is seated properlly it will only go in one way and make sure the ide cable is seated properly . i hope this helped
