computer drive problems

my Compaq windows 98 will not recognize my third optical drive so here are my drives.

a:/ floppy
c:/ hard drive 1
d:/ hard drive 2
e:/ CD ROM
f:/ zip 100
g:/ CD ROM
h:/ switches between removable disk and digital camera

QUESTIONS 101 You can only have a max of 4 IDE drives (2 HDD's and 2 Opticals or some other combination) unless you buy an IDE controller card OR your mobo has more IDE controllers onboard (which yours doesn't).

yes but i have one more ide connector and one more power connector

So do you have 3 CD ROM drives or 2 installed now? (cause with 2HDD's you can only have 2 CD ROMS).

i have 2 cd rom drives right now and i have one harddrive but it thinks it is 2 in one and the reason i know that is beacause ive tried it before
