Computer Evolution

One of my friends told me that computers were not evolving as fast as they used to be, something with how much they can coil the wires around, idk. Does anyone have any knowledge on what the future will bring to computing, any new technologies, etc.

The biggest limitation is the internet. The networks that use phone lines and TV cable for data transfer cannot sustain transfer of high amounts of data. So for example, if every internet subscriber wanted to watch HD YouTube videos at the same time, we would experience massive congestion. I read somewhere that in one month, YouTube uses more bandwidth than all internet traffic combined in the year 2000.

Updating the networks to Fiber Optic lines is too much of a hassle, and too expensive, for internet providers. So instead of updating their technology, they throttle their subscribers. Comcast recently implemented a 250 GB monthly bandwidth limit. In Canada, Bell is throttling torrent files between the hours of 9am to midnight. If you want to download anything over torrent, you have to wait for midnight, or you receive the files at 5 kb/sec.

As for computer hardware, we have four cores in the CPU, 12 GB of DDR3 ram, and 2 or 3 video cards working in sync. What we need now are video games that can actually use all these resources.

Well, in the nearest future computers will use touchscreens, speech recognition and this kind of natural interaction with the computers, and not only computers, but also gadgets, mobile phones, TVs and most electronic devices.

Well with 2 or 3 video cards the computer will significantly improve, but what im asking is if they have run out of space to expand on the new technologies. Like, video cards will not get faster, or hard drives will not get smaller. idk, those sorts of things.

i guess things can only get as small as the current travelling through them.

it would seem that way at the moment i think many computer designers have hit a wall give them a while to work over it . im sure in a lil while they will begin improving it

Perhaps. Look what they did with the CPU. When they couldn't go any smaller, they just stuck two together, and vwalla. Now it's twice as fast.

How about some quad-core ram sticks, triple-core DVD-RW burners, ...??? :D

they are experimenting with DNA to use it as a CPU. They have actually created some CPU's now but they are not ready for testing on normal computers. just calculators so far.

I believe they are also trying to use that tech(or something similar) for storing info on CD's

i read this a while ago, so who knows where they are now with this stuff.

I think that future computers will be based on artificial intelligence which means that they can do anything which we can do.i.e they can talk, walk, take decision etc..

i believe its very possible to see that in the future tactile interface will be phased out and startling advancements will be made in touch and virtual reality interfaces. You can almost already see it with Phones and now many monitors are coming touch ready. And of course as technology has always progressed the performance will grow smaller, that is that more power will packed into a smaller size. At some point decisions will need to be made to change the direction of size but i do believe some very radical industry changes are coming in the near future. And for all you chord junkies with LAN and COM wire, I do believe that fiber optics will replace Coaxial and other such type cables. But who's to say for sure?
