Hi, I am looking for a computer for college. I already have a nice monitor and about 800 dollars to spend on the rest of the set-up. I don't really have the time or the know-how to build my own computer.
Uses:
-basic word processing and doing other assignments
-listening/storing music
-perhaps watching some dvds
-burning cds and dvds
-playing some games, although not any ones with really nice graphics

My main concern is that the system is reliable and is fast.

From the dell website I created this:

PROCESSOR Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6550 (4MB L2 Cache,2.33GHz,1333 FSB)

OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium edit

MEMORY 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz- 2DIMMs edit

HARD DRIVE 320GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™ edit

OPTICAL DRIVE Dual Drives: 48X CDRW/DVD COMBO Drive + 16X DVD+/-RW Drive edit

VIDEO CARD 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8300GS edit

SOUND Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio edit

KEYBOARD & MOUSE Dell USB Keyboard and Dell Optical USB Mouse edit

FLOPPY & MEDIA READER No Floppy Drive Included edit

MODEM & WIRELESS No Modem Option

Any suggestions?

Are you planning on buying a machine from dell or how do you feel about buying the stuff from newegg and throwing it together yourself... its easy and you can get a better computer (performance and preferences) for the same or less money.
