Computer freeze up as soon as i start it! Virus or registry issues?!

Hi .. I had a post here couple weeks ago because my computer was slow .. it was suggested to run combofix, which I did along with running avg, malware, and hijackthis .. anyway, once I did all of that, my computer was fully fixed and was working fine until 2 days ago when it started to freeze on my .. at first they were a few hours apart and it soon became more frequent and eventually it started to happen as soon as I started the computer and got to the desktop .
I am able to get in safemode but even there it crashes on my after a while (although not freezing) .. in safe mode, i was able to run combofix .. but that did not resolve the issue .. on the bottom of my screen i do see a new icon which is one of those fake "registry cleaning" icons that asks u to buy something .. so I am pretty sure it is infected . .at the same time I read in the forum that freeze ups are often due to registry issues ..

I might have infected my computer since last week when i removed AVG, with the intention to buy norton .. although I know I have not been to any strange websites ..

Assuming i can do some work in safe mode, can u please recommend the steps I should take at this point? Also, my computer came with a restore disk when I purchased it a couple years ago, if I run that, would it restore my computer and remove any infection/issues (at the cost of loosing all my files and programs)?

Since you already have them installed, just update malwarebytes and run it and then post its log along with a hijackthis log. If you don't have them then here they are.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware


Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
 
Hi .. i am posting back my malwarelogs and hijackthis .. however, i was only able to perform a quick scan with malware since my computer freezes after about 3 or 4 min .. is that good enough?!!!! Also, The hijackthis took only like 10 sec to run .. is that normal?

Also have a question please, If i use the restore disk that came with my computer, would that make all my problems go away? (at the cost of loosing everything i have in my computer?)

Hijackthis needs to be ran in regular mode not safe mode, please repost. Have you looked in the event viewer to see if there is anything in there that may tell you why your system is freezing?

Yes, Hijackhthis only takes a few seconds to produce a log for you. It's not an indepth scanner like a malware or virus program is.


Start by doing some general housecleaning. download and run Ccleaner.

Basically leave everything checked and click on run cleaner at the bottom right. It might take a while especially if you have a lot of temporary internet files.

Also, have you defragged your hard drive within the last couple months? If not, do so now.

I would definately rethink the issue of installing nortons. You should be reinstalling AVG. How much system ram do you have installed?

Rerun hijackthis and place checks next to the following entries.

Then click on fix checked at the bottom.

I would like for you to download and run combofix. Please delete the file you have now and download the latest version.

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
